CLS55 AMG RENNtech 5+
Have Modded CLS55 - Looking for Documented Gains from Heads and Cam...Anyone?

Hi Guys,

I have a CLS55 with the following mods:

RENNtech Stuff:

CF Intake
78mm TB
SS Headers
Second Heat Exchanger
Upgraded Intercooler Fluid Pump
ELM

Eurocharged Stuff:

180mm Crank Pulley

LET Stuff:

Dyno Tune from Jerry T.

Does anyone have any documented results from having the heads ported and polished, valve job, new springs and retainers, and new more aggressive camshafts? By documented I mean before and after dyno results showing RWHP, RWTQ, AFR, and Boost measured on the same dyno.

If so, please post them and your overall driving impressions.

Thanks!

Been there, done that.

Not worth it. I didn't go bigger valves though. Port polish etc.

There's a thread from a few years ago on it.

Not much improvement for the money you pay.

PTE's cams are great but I also have heard of guys really loving the SLR style Kleemann cams. Weird part is my car seems to be one of the only ones that really is lopey on idle with the PTE cams. Other guys report no lope at all. Weird. Here's a video of mine with the cams. It's not radical but for a 4 door liner, it's pretty wild.

Our cars are starving for air. 80mm TB would be my recommended next step for your car. 82 would be better but I have heard of some guys having issues with um and I don't now much about um.

The bigger the better I say. Wish someone would make a hundred!

Cams and TB really opened my car up on the top end. Didn't do a whole lot for bottom end grunt.

Thanks for your review I would expect the car to pick up some ponies from a port and polish on top end but that shows how much I know I'm not spending any more money on my car (at least that's what I say now haha)but port n polish and custom longtubes were on my wish list.

What kind of problems with the 82mm TB? I haven't heard of any yet. At some point you would need to redesign the sc inlet for bigger TB's. I think the restriction is more in the intake than the TB once you upgrade TB's.

AMG heads are already nicely polished from the start. I am working on getting some different cams(PTE and Kleemann) so I could check a stock head on a flow bench with each one. From what I have seen, after an 82mm TB, your next step for moving air through the engine would be cams or maybe larger valves. This is all considering you have a larger pulley and an intercooler circuit that will support more boost(ie: more air for the engine to use).
