just bought E55
Hey everyone,
I have bought 05' E55 couple of weeks ago,, and very surprised about the build quality. I cannot be compared to M5...
For people insisting M5 is better car,, I believe they have't even driven E55.
This car is way better in every way. More comfy, more torque and more complete machine overall.
I used to get all that squeaky noise coming from everywhere in M5 and M3s and really sick of it. Problems with software and SMG pumps and regulary failing coils etc. I had to visit dealership 5-6 times average in a year with my BMWs to reapir this and that.
For this Merc, I am just satisfied about the superior build quality. No cheap plastics like BMW, no squeaky noise, no slamming from gearbox. Only thing I like better in M5 is longer seat bottoms.
I live in New Zealand, such a small land and too many cops around, there is nowhere you can use top end power of your M car anyway..
I normally just read other's thread but I had to write today becoz I am so happy with my E55.

Welcome! I'm not one with much experience with any of these cars (even my own E55. lol) but I understand what you mean about the slamming of gears. I drove my friends M3 and when it shifted to second I thought rear axle blew up. Scared the s**t out of me! He laughed and said it was normal.

Welcome and congrats...
I like to think that I have some pretty good perspective on AMG and M models:
Having owned:
E46 M3
E39 M5
E63 M6
E92 M3
W210 E55
W211 E55
W216 CL65
and clearly I have had less issues with my M cars in relation to squeaks, rattles, and little subtle complaints. I did have one major M issue and that was the blown engine on the E46 M3 right after the rod bearing recall; go figure. But overall my Benzes (less of them too) have spent more time at the shop.
But YMMV- congrats and enjoy the beast.

Welcome to the board! I've had my E55 for 6 years and the interior build quality has been very good for me...no trim falling off...etc...
I just feel that the E55 interior is a warmer environment to drive in...the M5 is a blast too but the interior is a bit too German and clinical for me. Also, the exterior cuts a classic line moreso than the M5 (to me).

Congrats and welcome You'll find a place to stretch those legs sometime!
I remember when I went to New Zealand after I graduated High School and those long country roads were a blast to drive! Especially the single lane passing on some of the bridges
Torque and the interior are what sold me on the car. I've never had a back massage while burning tires before
