So I'm having this somehow related issue to op.
But rather than opening the trunk lid, my issue is closing it with the automatic function. When I press the close lid button the lid will come down half way and then return to to its fully open position. If I press the button a second time it shuts properly, however, sometimes it requires a third time to be pressed.
Can this be a wiring issue as well?

Closing halfway and reopening could be one of several issues.
1. The wiring could be marginal (this is not as likely).
2. The left side trunk lid arm is getting caught on something. This happened on my CDI. The harness had been repaired rather sloppily before and they put flexible wire loom in there but it was rubbing causing the trunk lid not to close sometimes.
3. If the car is new to you, previous owner could have started shutting the trunk manually by hand and the force to shut it can bend the bracket so it binds a little. This happened on my CDI. Luckily, I had a spare bracket with bad motor so I switched out the bracket and it worked much more smoothly. Although still occasionally will catch as it closes ... so I need to look at it again .. but it is minor.
4. Lubrication of the motor gear could be poor (less likely also).
5. If you have a DAS you can also check if the trunk lid angle sensor is normalized. Also less likely to be this but you never know.

2007 E63 Amg
Hi all,

I have 2007 E63 Amg and my trunk is acting up. At first the electronic trunk closer stopped working: it wouldn't light up and didn't work. But I could open the trunk just fine with remote, although it would only pop up half the way, and the 3rd brakes worked fine.

In my attempt to fix it, I pulled the driver side trunk cover off. I inspected the wires and didn't see severed wire. The wires go into a plastic tube at the end, and I am not sure if wires get severed there or not. I had W211 E350 several years ago and the wires were broken right where the trunk arm is. Anyways, then I played with fuses. Replaced few with the same color and Amp that I had as spare. I gave up and installed everything back only to find out that actually the 3rd light stopped working now. And the remote won't open the trunk. So I made it worst.

Can anybody tell me where the wires usually break? Or what else can be the issue? Also which fuse is in charge of the trunk opener.

I had broken wires along the U shape of the hinge along with where they exit the end also. Look close you may see they look flat instead of being round. I don’t remember the exact number of wires I repaired but it was more than you would think.

FYI..occassionally I have the issue (trunk opens halfway) but no other issues/symptoms. Found out that my trunk lid release latch (the part that you grab with your hand and squeeze to open if you open your trunk manually/with your hand) sometimes sticks when I squeeze it. When it sticks, the trunk wont fully open. As soon as I unstick it, the trunk opens just fine. This weekend I'll see where the latch/handle needs cleaning/lubrication

Took a closer look at all the wires today. The brown one was in fact severed. Didn't have solder handy so just tangled the wire together and wrapped with an electrical tape. It got a little shorter than the rest Hope it won't break anytime soon.

I wonder why it is always the brown one that breaks. And why does it always break in the 10th year of the car. Does it have a time bomb installed in it?

Your best bet is to cut the bad section of wire and graft in a new section of wire and solder it, then shrink wrap it. Because it you don't it will just repeat itself. As the car ages the wire will get brittle and hard, and the opening and closing of the trunk because the wires to bend and break.
So replacing the section of the is the best solution. I've gone a year without any issues, after my wires were done.
