I'am maybe comparing it too much with my 7 series.
But then again,my 7 is lowered and is sitting on 22's.
I swear it is the best ride ever.

Now with my E,i feel like its almost rough,if i drive on rough roads it feels like it's swaying left and right,an it is a very harsh ride.This is all in comfort mode.

I have had all 4 corners of the air suspension replaced(well the previous owner did)but man,i feel like maybe this car is not supposed to be driven on LA streets and freeways!

 

Mine runs a lil rough but that is cause I'm 20's and rubber bands for tires.

My ride was smooth as butter when I had my 18's AND 19's.

The Car feels like it mves from left to right and vice versa when on rough roads.

 

I know what you mean. After I put on 19's it only made it rougher.
Trust me, there is no way that LA streets are as bad as Montreal roads and freeways.

 

I put 20s on mine and still rides like a dream! Now the RS4 is harsh as hell and maybe my opinion is slanted!

 

BelaMeca...what kind of tires are you running now? Sometimes that makes a difference with respect to tramlining and road noise (i.e. tire design)? Or possibly it's time for new tires...because tramlining gets worse when tires get low on tread...

It appears as if something may be wrong... Suspension, tires, wheels, any of the sort... Before the AMG, I too had a BMW e66 745li lowered on H&R springs with 22" rims... It rode sweet, but it was also BMW's flagship vehicle... The e55 isn't as buttery, but it's still a very comfortable ride... I feel noticeable difference between all airmatic settings, so either you are expecting too much out of the vehicle, or something is wrong...

When you hit the various airmatic buttons, do you see the confirmation message in the instrument cluster?

When I first purchased my vehicle, the previous owner had changed the suspension settings via star... No matter what number I had my airmatic set at, it would sit at the same height, and drive the same. I also wouldn't get the messages in the display to confirm the setting I chose... The dealer reprogrammed the suspension and did an alignment... Afterwards, I noticed differences in ride quality depending on airmatic setting, and I also got the "comfort, sport 1, sport2" confirmations in the instrument cluster.

Are you saying that when you lower the car VIA STAR,you won't be able to use your airmatic sensors any longer??really?

I'm asking because i wanted to have it lowered via STAR.

Now,i definitely can see and feel the difference when using different settings.Maybe i'm just being weird because i'm used to my 750.

Doesn't sound right, because I am lowered via star and the suspension button functions no different. I get the messages and the height, firmness change slightly.

 

Very comfy. Sport 2 is somewhat stiff but comfort mode is comfortable, even being lowered.

 

I dont have an E but my ride is pretty stiff and it feels like im getting punched in the kidney over every bump. But thats in sport 2. But in comfort its like floating on a cloud. lol

 

Maybe your the tire air pressure is to high.

 

This isn't what I meant... I should have clarified... The previous owner, from what I can gather, tried to lower via star themselves... They obviously did it wrong because the rear end sat a good 3-4 inches lower than the front... None of the airmatic settings would make any differance with the exception of the "raise vehicle" button... It would still raise the vehicle, but not level...

The dealer came to the diagnosis that the "numbers" in the suspension computer were all messed up... They reconfigured everything, performed an alignment, and all was well after that... If you properly lower via star, it won't affect the airmatic sensors in any way...

 

Mine rides very comfortably. Mine doesn't seem to sway from side-to-side at all... It's the seats that aren't that comfortable for me. The front of the seat hits the middle of my legs and I can't figure out how to adjust them correctly. It is ok for quick trips but anything longer that a few hours starts to bug me...

 

I drive a 750Li a decent amount. The 750 and the E55 are both on stock wheels with Hankook V12's and they are very similar as far as how comfortable they both are. The E55 is a bit more rough in Sport 2 but it's not bad. The Hankooks made a big difference. Made the car comfotable as hell.

 

I was sorely disappointed in the comfort my E55 offered when I first purchased it. I have since gotten used to it, but my comfort expectations were simply far beyond reality. I assumed it would ride like a Cadillac in Comfort mode, totally isolated from the road.

 

Lowering via STAR should still make the suspension setting work. It's just lower than original in all settings.

Do you see any error message? Is your suspension setting still working? At least, do you see the light indicators changing or the display shows suspension setting status when you press the button?

I believe I had similar problem to yours... but I got error message (display malfunction - visit workshop) and the suspension setting didn't work anymore. The car was super stiff (much stiffer than Sport 2). I kind of liked it aside from the error message. I felt the handling aside from comfort improved a lot

Anyway... Apparently it was a blown fuse. I changed it and it kept blown after a short while. Brought it to dealer... found one of the front sensors went bad. Did some investigation and suspected the culprit was my RT ELM (either defective control unit or installation issue). Replaced the fuse again as well as the bad sensor. Took out the RT ELM completely. And now I'm in testing mode to see whether the problem comes back or not.

If not, then RT is deemed the culprit... if it comes back, something else. So far so good (after 2 days). We'll see.

my M5 on its most comfortable setting rides better than my E55 on the comfort setting...which is really odd but like izzy28 said, maybe I was expecting too much comfort...

 

I notice that our CLS63 and E63 ride differently. I would say that the CLS has a tighter suspension than the E does, but then again the CLS is on stockies while the E is on 20s.

Comfort is way too soft for me, especially coming from a lowered E46 M3. I have it on Sport 2 the majority of the time.

 

Are you telling me you are from Montreal ?? Didint realize any E55 in MTL

Tires are good.More then 90% tread.

Took it to the shop today.Hope they figure something out.It's got brand new air suspension...i don't know.
