Why are SO very few E55's loaded up w Options ?
I am talking about 2005-2006s here folks, not the early ones....
Parktronic is quite rare to see, cooled seats are almost non-existant, rear sunshade is iffy, keyless go is probably 60% of the time, and pano I couldn't care less about....
Any ideas why these cars didn't leave the factory like many E63's (i.e. full of every option ?? )

Actually there were not that many custom orders from individuals on these cars.... at least not as much as dealer volume-orders. The reason for the less-equipped inventory is two fold:
1) Each dealer gets to order a specified number of cars (allocation) based on how many cars they sell per month (or year). For some reason, most dealers (except the huge ones) ordered only a couple of options here and there for most of the cars ordered, which is unlike what happened for the E63.... almost every E63 out there comes with premium 2 package.
2) Each package on the E55 was smaller (included less stuff) than the packages offered on the E63. For example, the E63 Premium II package included the cooling seats, Keyless go, etc... which were not included in the premium package for the E55.

My car was custom ordered with everything from leather combination's to options. I know MBForever is probably right because most dealers are cheap and would rather add on the options after the fact so they did not have money tied up in inventory.

I guess I "lucked out." I have the panoramic roof, keyless go, ventilated seats, tire pressure monitoring... Everything but distronic, parktronic, iPod, and bluetooth (which I really do want all of these)!!! I know my car is pre-wired for the bluetooth and I already have the iPod kit, bluetooth stuff, etc. Just need to find the time and the cahjones to put it in... I don't mind doing maintenance on these vehicles, but ripping out the interior is a little scary to me...

Mine is 2005, it is fully loaded,
Pano, Keyless, cooled seat, parktronic, distronic, Navi, etc ... I would love if MB put the rear camera option or at least made a room for it.

My 04 E55 was almost fully loaded...I didn't want the navigation and audio system only because I knew it would not make me happy vs. my aftermarket experiences (the Kenwood Excelon unit w/Garmin just blows COMANAD Navi away).
The only thing I do wish I had was the keyless go/start button (like I do on my SL65)...At first, I didn't think it was great option but I really do like it in my 65...just jump in and hit the button.

Btw my '06 is equipped with Navigation,Drive Dynamic seats, lighting package,Keyless go,Electronic trunk closer and Rear shades.
The only other options i wanted were the Pano ( i was told it rattles) and the parktronic/distronic (sensors go bad frequently) so i didn't look for one with them.
However,i wish i knew about the rear window shades,Phone and Ipod options as i definately would have gone for those.
Great car.

I have wondered the same, and this is actually for a lot of AMGs. When I was hunting my 65 it was the same story... they almost all came with nothing! I love my options and don't subscribe to the weight/more stuff to break mentality... they are very nice to have and help distinguish the car from other brands.
I think it boils down to most E55s are not ordered by customers, they are ordered by dealers. People who buy cars off the showroom floors typically aren't picky and therefore don't mind not having options. I think this has changed over the years plus MB started bundling options (premium packages) which has meant more options on the newer 63s. The E55s that have a lot of options were most likely custom ordered, where as ones with very light options were dealer ordered cars.
Now, most of the higher end AMGs (like my G55) come with just about every option standard.
My E55 has everything except drive dynamic seats, distronic, and shades (after having them on my '03, I realized shades are useless if you have a tinted car).
My 65 has everything except electronic trunk closer and distronic (I wish it had the electronic trunk closer...)

I guess I didn't realize they still make the E55s so I can order w exactly the options I want (Half kidding) - and I do not like the W212s a whole lot....
Thanks for the thoughtful response Marcus.
