AMG Engine covers

Question... I thought these (AMG LOGO on each side of SC) were valve covers while cleaning my engine bay this afternoon I realized the valve covers are actually just below them. So what are they? What are their function? Also if I remove the torx bolts do they just come off or is there anything I should be aware of. I would like to get them powder coated.

Borrowed photo... Thx Brians

Those would be your surge tanks and I am powder coating mine black when I get the time and keeping the AMG logo alone to show through. This will not be soon though since I am learning to have the go before the show. Another member brought up a good point about making it fast before you make it look fast, although when stock she is pretty damn fast. After saying that I just realized I have a problem with AMG power, great! Good thing I have free Obama health care!

So if I remove the torx bolts do they just pull up? Are there gaskets that I need to order before I reinstall?

I haven't done it yet but I'm told it's easy. Just remove the screws and it comes off but keep in mind the screws are different sizes due to the angle of the tank. Then the common sense factor in covering the ports to keep the internals clean and carefully tightening them back to like you would a wheel to prevent stripping the screws. As far as there being a gasket to replace I am unsure.

I have just had mine painted burgundy. The AMG logo is now noticeable and I am pleased with the results.

Procedure for removal is that you remove the torx screws and unscrew the 2 retaining clips at the rear. The torx screws are the same length except for the one at the rear where it is longer on the left hand side. You will need new gaskets when re-installing. I paid $AUD27 each I guess they would be about $US20. You need 2 new gaskets Installing is the reverse procedure of removal.

That's awesome man! Did you already pick up all that stuff up? I can't wait to see it when it's all finished.

When do you want to do those paddles?

CF For the engine... Not yet, I have been trying to find a good deal. I have a really good Powder Coater that I have used for years. If you want to do yours let me know. I will probably drop them off next week.

Paddle shifters are done and installed! It was pretty straight forward. They are actually really effective and much better than the lame buttons. My car is back at the dealer today. I think the replacement SC Clutch pulley created a squeaky tensioner pulley. So I am waiting here back on that. They gave me a brand new >100mi G(ay)L(oaner) to drive. I'm moving up to tgoss status at Westminster.

LOL GL? what color? I'll have to hate a little if I see you in it. I always thought it was great when you drop your beast off and get something that is such an embarrassment to drive in return.

Glad you got the paddles done. It's definitely one of the best mods.

Ya let me know when you drop them off. I'll like to get my done blood red

Hit me up this weekend if you don't have anything going on.

Eventhough people rarely see what's under the hood, Harbor Motorsports put a nice touch on mine.

Sun, the engine bay looks great.... but for all the mods you have, the air box looks kind of small now .... maybe it's time to move up to the RennTech air boxes

thx Mo! I thought about it, but I decided I'm done with adding stuff to the motor. I actually found a used one a while back and was going to jump on it but I ended up being a day late. If I were to get the airbox, I would have to get another retune. My car pulls and runs strong, why mess with a good thing?

I was thinkin about gettin a race gas map done so I can keep up and compare myself with everyone () but then I figured I wasn't doing too bad for a pump fuel map.

Thanks for all of the comments & everyone that shared images and advice. This thread was very helpful... It took me about 15 minutes to remove the tanks. Very simple mod. IMHO the gaskets will not need replacing they appeared to be in great condition.

Update:
I am in the process of powder coating the surge tanks to match my 55's Tectite paint & polished ///AMG script Followed by CF Air box, Vanity engine cover and Python tubes I'll post the after pics next week when everything is back together.

Surge tanks removed:
