anyone repair their 3rd brake LED???
ok , dont ask me but now 4 little LEDs are out in my 3rd brake light , took the light off and I dont see any obvious defect, burn area, broken connection. does anyone no if these can be fixed or repaired. if anyone has one for sale let me know 2005 E55, early build date. seems there are 2 part numbers. A211 820 15 56 early build before 6/30/2005 and the later one A211 820 14 56 after that date. just FYI.

Yes,
use a voltage tester on the individual led conections. I also had 4 faulty and resoldered the cicuit to get 3 of them to work agian, as the end led was blown.

can you be more specific. did you remove the 4 th , did you resolder the 4 leg prongs , or solder over the blown LED. I did test all of them and the LED 2-4 seem to light up sligtly on my ohm meter but the first one from the plug didnt. I dont see any breaks but if removing and resoldering would help , I can do that. I am not sure what you did to get them working.
thanks
thanks
I tested the resistance of the LEDS to find which one is open circuit/faulty and bridged the circuit to make it closed circuit agian by soldering across the faulty LED tracks.
I did not investigate sourcing the idividual LEDs, but the cost would be nothing to purchase..............if you could work out where to source them
thanks

LEDs are not replaceable...even if you replace the LEDs and seal it up really good it will leak later on..moisture will get in there and caused condensation...Trust me..been there done that.
Here a brand new one $174.35..Free shipping.

Just did my inspection with Easy Care for my extended warranty...and of course I've got led's out.
$186 isn't too bad...just wondering on how difficult it will be to replace.

Somehow, I cracked the outside 3rd brake light lens, but all of my LED lights worked. I got the part number 820 15 56, and have the old LEDs left over.
All of the LEDs work, and would be happy to send this to the first person who responds for $10 to cover shipping.
Let me know.

man that sucks. He hijacks my thread and steals my LED light. At least send me your old one maybe I can salvage the LEDs out of it.
I did just get you a 3rd brake light for 10.00 what are friends for.

Damn. How did I miss these posts??? Would have saved me $100 if I had been paying attention.. :-)
For what it's worth, I ordered the light from parts.com - $116.15. Should be here in a few days and I'll take some pics when I do the install and set this up as a sticky because it seems to be a common issue.
And now...watch...as this becomes MORE common, we'll probably see that price creep up as they catch on (not sure if any of you guys remember us being able to order spare keys on line for $75 a few years ago...and then everyone did it...and they sky rocketed in price quickly after that).

pullejo , let me know when you get it. if it comes with any part numbers and if you can some pics. I am waiting. the part.com people cannot get their act together I have emailed them twice about this item and getting me a part number but all they want is a VIN. I know my part number , I want to know what number they have . how simple is that. why dont they list the part with a part number.
