IAT question with new pump

For you guys datalogging, what are your average iats in 80-85 degree weather? How much over ambient? Also, what will your high iats be during a pull? Thanks much

I can answer for the guys with a dead pump (I assume that's my problem) It has been 70-85 here and in the morning the IAT's are 90ish, the same as the coolant temp. During a 20 minute drive to work it climbs up to 130. Note: I take it very easy during this time. No WOT at all, not even close. After sitting for a little while it it will get to around 150-160 as it matches the temp of the engine and earlier today when I was doing a lot of driving around town, stopping etc it showed 170 during normal driving. It seems to hold around 150ish when driving at 60mph once it's fully warmed up. To small punches of the throttle take it to 200+ and them I have nothing for a while.

Yes, my pump is on it's way. New HE too. It's going in asap.

I know that's not what you asked for but I wanted to emphasize the importance of datalogging and how much we need a well working pump. Also goes to show how well these engines are at protecting themselves!

Thanks for the info. Yes, your pump definitely does not sound healthy! I also datalog the crap out of my car... lol...it is soooo addicting. Anyhow, I made the mistake of replacing my cm30 pump which was working great with a new cm30 pump...long story. Anyhow, since then my iats have never dropped below 20 degrees over ambient and I did a short pull and they shot up to 156 and took forever to recover. This seems way off to me, even with this warm weather. I have bled the system twice, and the pump is set to run continuously. I guess tomorrow, I will do the whole thing over again, to see if maybe I missed something.

every set up can yield different results..

stock form and stock pump or cm30.. Iat's should be around 15 to 20F over ambient.. when the car crusing around 70mph

any pull over 100.. should push your IAT' around 120 and the faster you go.. the higher the spike.

Also the hotter the day.. (say 90F+) its gets even harder to keep IAT on check.

On my set up... biggger HE 60oz+. CM30, split circuit, separate reservoir holding 60oz and removed the hood plastic covers and upgraded T-stat (which now only reduces engine coolant).

I can average around 10F over ambient when cruising at 80F degrees.

On a recent run to Las Vegas.. I ran to 130mph on a 85F degree day.. and I hit 140 IAT's. Took about 40 seconds to recover completely.

Before splitting the system.. it would take probably over a minute.

IMHO: A faster pump would yield faster recovery.. but could affect efficiency of the HE.

I have a new Mezerie pump in my garage.. but yet to pull the trigger to install it. I'm going to wait for summer to do my testing.

The magic number is about 140IAT.. anything higher you are loosing HP.. anything around 200IAT and kompressor goes to the bench for rest.

Thanks much for the responses. I have a Code 3 HE as well. With the other cm30 my IATs wouldn't really go 10 degrees over ambient, and last track day the highest I saw was 136 and that was a hot lap...but of course it was 65 degrees outside. I think the warmer weather is definitely having an effect, but still this just doesn't seem right. Anyhow, I going to reinstall this pump and then am splitting the system and installing a rear resevoir with another cm30 at the rear, and I think that will be the key.

Make sure the system is bleeded. Then check the IAT before replacing pump

That is a strange problem. Good luck. Maybe it just needs to be bled like you said. Would a resevoir up high solve that problem making it very easy to bleed? Truth be told I've never bled a cooling system so I'm a little ignorant.

Also I have a spare GT3 center radiator. Do you all think it would be worth while to put in the system? I"m talking in addition to the usual upgraded HE up front. It holds 20oz of fluid. I was thinking of the rear bumper and it almost fits perfect but air flow there is not so great. Maybe I can cram it someplace in the front. It's about 26x5x1

ditto.

bleed system.. don't change your pump.

I had the same problem when i switched pumps or when I installed a newer Code3 HE.

read the sticky for bleeding. very easy and cheap.

Thanks. I actually bled it twice. Not one air bubble left in that system.
