Best air intake for E63 with out kicking codes.

Looking to do resonator delete and intake on an 07 e63 to give a little more grunt. What are most of you guys going with. Are codes being kicked.

The RennTech carbon fiber air boxes are a little bigger than stock and will give you an additional 10 to 15 hp

No I have not remove them yet. Is it easy to do and this will be a safe removal along with the resonator delete without kicking codes. So does moving the charcoals free up another 5-10 hp??? Any links would be great on install.

Slow
Search is your friend, this subject has been talked about numerous times. I threw codes for "lean at idle" when I pulled mine. I found out it was either from a loose driver side intake tube or loose intake manifold (tightened).

Charcoal filters removal will not trigger any codes. I've removed them on my car and put them back on for testing at the track and didn't get any codes. I've also removed them from a few other 63s and have also gotten no codes. Regarding the gains from removing them, there is no definite answer on this since these cars vary greatly from one to the other. I've seen some cars gain 1 whp while others gained 18 rwhp. I would say an average of 0 to 8 rwhp maybe possible. Here is the relevant thread for the dyno:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...e-18-rwhp.html

Regarding instructions on how to remove the charcoal filters, there is a good thread in the CLS section with a nice write-up:

Deff a great, easy to follow write up but heres my question:

Whats the importance of the charcoal filters? On an engine as sophisticated as ours, they gotta be doing something!

So pro/con explanation would be nice! thanks!!

I think the charcoal is just a 2ndry filter , i cannot see another use . U will lose some bottom end TQ removing it but u will see the difference in power in a different rpm range . if u are gonna mess with the air boxes there are several other mods + tips to do since they are off and a tune would be in line to really maximize the increased air flow .

If not remove charcoals and just do the 2ndry cats with 2 straight pipes to resonator .
