"thud"?

After driving around for a while, if I place the vehicle into reverse and slowly backup I feel/hear a "thud" once I apply the brakes. The "thud" appears to be coming from the front of the vehicle. I've had the car at the dealer for troubleshooting and they could not find out what it is but they reassured me that everything is okay. Any thought?

I had something very similar with both noise and vibration and the culprit was my transmission mounts. Just a thought.

Don't mean to freak you out, but are you sure its coming from the front? I had similar thuds that led to my subframe collapsing... Scary stuff. I heard mine from the back though...

what would cause it to collapse (mfg defect)? How would you know? The dealer indicated that that thoroughly inspected the vehicle and said that it is safe. It appears to be coming from the front.

Its a mfg defect. There is a few cases on the board. I brought my car in to get it checked out and they said it was fine. A month down the road my subframe just fell off. One dealer refused to fix it as the damage was estimated to be around $15,000 and told me to go through insurance. I went to a different dealership, a corporate one, and they fixed it. It took a month and a lot of *****ing and bickering....

How can this be inspected and what happens when it just falls off?

I have that issue right now! When I place my car in reverse, then drive, i head a thud in the rear. I was asking Shardul about it last night. Is it covered under MB as a recall?

it is the tranny in most cases. the thud will be less notice able if you wait for about 2 seconds between Park, Rear and Drive. At least that is what i noticed in my car.
