has any e55 owners went to the e63?
I have heard over the posts on people who have driven the e55 and the e63 but am curious if any forum members have gone from an e55 to an e63 and have you regretted it or are happier with the e63?

However I bet there are regular guys out there that have traded in there E55's for E63's Just not sure if those guys are forum members.

fwiw, I didn't own an E55 before but I did get the 63 specifically as a comfort daily and not for any racing. I have a 2009 with the latest nav and COMAND which is a huge improvement. Car is completely stock.
All I wanted was something nice and easy for the road but with some grunt and a better tuned tranny and suspension than a base 550. And also for a better steering feel and handling then the E55 (the 55 feels softer and more numb compared to the 63.)
I have another car I use for HPDEs at the track. The 63 makes for a good all around grocery getter. I think it's more civilized than the 55 in the real world.

The E63 is an amazing vehicle but after the E55, the only 63's that "did it for me" were the C63 (tuned to the full 507HP) and the CLK63 Black. The other 63's just didn't have enough power compared to the 55. I ultimately opted for no 63 as I couldn't stand the interior in the C63 and have a damaged disc in my back so the CLK63 was too stiff for me to drive without constant pain. I pretty quickly narrowed my options down to an SL65 which is the right place to go after an E55 (if you have passengers or kids, just fold them up and stuff them in the trunk)!

I think the C63 will be a great pick up in about two years. It seems the C class AMG's take massive nose dives in values more so than the E series. Just look what a 2005 C55 with like 40K miles goes for. You can pick one up for about $20k now. If I dont find an E55 here in the next year or so may search for a C63 if there are down into the low 30's. Probably will not be for about 2 yrs when a 2008 can be purchased for that.

2005 E55 / 2008 E63
I currently have both. My 2 cents:
E55
From a dig the SC engine cannot be compared. The torque difference is very noticable, especially low end. The 55 eats rear tires faster than the 63.
E63
I'll take the 7 speed tranny and compression of the NA engine. The ability to down shift into a turn cannot be compared. Added, the suspension on E63 and exhaust note are an upgrade over the 55.
End of the day, both are a riot to drive when you add the luxury of both. Near perfect combinations.

I picked the 63 over the 55. The small interior updates, exterior look, 7 speed, and NA engine won me. The better suspension and steering was a big factor as well. I didn't buy it to rule the dragstrip (what 4450lb. car would), but it is plenty fast on the road playing with other fast cars. Never took a 55 on track, but from the few drives I've had I think the 63 gets around a track better than a 55 would (also not something most buyers are looking for). Mostly personal preference for me as they are both great cars..!

Agree...
have had 4 55's including a wagon/sedan, SL and CLS, and now E63. Fabulous exhaust note is correct, really, could be a touch more. 7 speed is OK, I'm not so sure I didn't prefer the old 5 speed. But is that's what it takes to get the 63 motor--and a car still in factory warranty--then I"m down with it. All are great to drive, I just prefer the 63.

+1 on pretty much everything said in each post above. I am one of the ones waiting for the TT and will probably snag one after people start turning in the short term leases. Just like above posts mentioned...I am one of the tuning nuts so HP and potential hp is nearly everything to me.
It will be exciting for me though, to feel what a great handling 4 door feels like.
That's one big thing I really envy about you 63 guys.
Threw my car hard into corners just few times. Quickly learned DON'T DO THAT!!!

wish you a lot of luck, 55 can't be compared with 63 engine, sorry but n/a versus supercharger is not a fare race. 63 can win as many awards it can, but if you are not planning to keep your car stock, 63 is just a a joke. my friend just spent $12k on his 63 engine and it is still slow pos.. some engines are just not made for modifications

2006 IWC Ingenieur CLS 55 AMG
I had an 06 E55 and loved it. Lease ended and got a 2008 E63. Nice car too but liked the torque of the 55 better. Also much easier to get more power as mentioned above. Also liked the 55 exhaust note more. Both cars were stock. 55 felt quicker but I habe no hard proof just seat of pants feeling.
I currently have 2006 IWC CLS 55 with Eurocharged pulley, cooling, tune, package plus shortie headers. Love it!

55 is nice from a dig, but once you get it moving and try to go around a corner the steering and suspension felt about exciting as an 8 year-old Toyota Avalon with dysfunctional drive-by-wire brakes and an illiterate Nav system.

There is a member on here who had an e55... upgraded to an e63, than quickly bought an e55 again... the massive torque, mods available for the e55 is unbeatable.
Personally, I test drove a 07 e63, did feel a bit more planted yes, but felt slow (atleast after driving the e55). E63 definitely has nicer exterior, interior, better sounding exhaust... but imo, get the e55, do the e63 exterior update, do mieshershaft exhaust and rock it
. Now the new w212 platform e63 with the new v8tt will be another storey!
Airmatic is airmatic, whether its the e55 or e63...both are boaty feeling, but if you want "performance" do coilovers!

As much as I still dislike the W212 body design, the wagon is a lot more palatable to me. I've already been talking with my dealer about what it would take to get into a new W212 E63 5.5TT wagon.

Very good read guys. It's obvious that all everyone here loves their ride regardless if it's a 55 or a 63. I've never driven a 63 but it wins hands down on interior/exterior styling. I can not tell you about the performance but I think the masses would agree that the 55 is more of a beast then the 63. Personally, I am still learning my car and the true capabilities of the engine. I had a discussion with a true AMG fanatic and he kept saying how the 55K motor raised the bar in the performance sector of the German auto market. I love my ride but owning a W211 63 would be just fine. Silver with pano roof, stock, but slammed.

I was buying a E55 at first. Then I thought how I planned to use this car and said to myself. The 55 would be a beast and easily modded but for daily use all year round the 63 would fit ME better as there will be less lil fix it items and less modding to deal with. The refined look of the 63 also was a factor for me.The nice updated look of a 63 was a plus for me.And I found one in my range to fit my needs.

Just curious as to what "fit it items" you are referring to that are less on the 63 than the 55?

Salty, I believe he's talking about CPS issues, IC pumps failing, fuel starvation for #8, piston issues, etc. Not to mention SBC, which is a cursed thing.
I think much of this argument comes down to what's important to the buyer. Yes the E55 has amazing power from a dead stop, and modded is one of the fastest cars on the road. I LOVE the power of the M113 as I have extensively driven both an E55 and a Kleemann K2 SL55.
I also couldn't get over just how floaty the E55 felt at high speeds and needed something that would be a little less problematic from a maintenance standpoint. The NA 63 is a simpler setup, has great power, a better suspension, and my '09 has the updated COMAND as 220S mentioned which I am a huge, HUGE fan of. The stereo is very good (barring the crappy center channel speaker).

I have never owned a 63 but I had one for a few days as a loaner. The 55 has tons of tq compared to the 63. I felt like the 63 was just a more comfortable ride and the sound of the engine was amazing. But I would pick the 55 any day over the 63 because of the power that the e55 has.
