My first AMG. stock for now but Already have the mod bug...
hey all I am new to the board, but have been pokin around a little already. Found some very helpful things on here so far.
I just bought an 04 e55 amg with pano and keyless the other day.
This is my first benz, and I have to say im very impressed. The car drives amazing to other cars I have owned. bmw, lexus, in my opinion dont compare to how comfortable this car is. The power on the other hand is very impressive for how heavy of a car it is and how well it drives.
I was on the search for a black or silver one when I came across this grey one at my local lexus dealership. I wasnt even aware of a grey color but when I saw it i fell in love with it.
I guess any helpful ideas and hints for mods would be great ! im going to start off with some light appearance mods, try to take it a little slow if i can to enjoy the car and not mod it to much to start. I have noticed every time I do a little mod I get more excited about the car. so doing it in portions is always best. This car is a one owner 40k mile car that imo was very well taken care of. On top of that I got a great lexus warranty bumper to bumper with 0 deductible ..
my future performance mods are looking towards a pulley, tune, heat exchanger, and possibly headers.
thinking about getting the led running lights, 6k headlights, to start of the small mods..

Congrats, looks extremely clean! The color looks amazing and imo is better than black. I started my visual mods in late January and am finally finished besides the wheels which I am waiting, so about five months. It is addicting so be careful!

For example, here's flint gray:

Linked due to being fairly big^. I've always loved that car.

1. Heat Soak: Most guys upgrade the heat exchanger and get a more reliable I/C pump (wire it to run continuously if you want). If you want to go extreme, some folks here have gotten a rear tank reservior for even more heat soak help. NOTE: This will not make the car go any faster but it will allow the car to run the car harder for longer periods of time more reliably.
2. Unsprung Weight: Consider lighter wheels (stock wheels are heavy) and rotors. Lowering the rotational mass will help in improving acceleration and braking.
3. Stage 1: I would drive your car stock for awhile to get used to what OEM can do for you. THEN consider stage 1 mods (ECU/larger pulley/filters)...you can try Kleeman, Evosport, or Renntech which are more of the well known tuner kits. Stage 1 kits give you most bang for your buck. Please do your due diligence in finding an installer of the kit...get references and inspect their shop.
Remember, it is an expensive slippery slope both in modifying and the consequences of modifying (i.e. any warranty is null and void). Many of us here have gone to the max (Stage 4/5) and have had to deal with issues (some minor and some VERY major - engine rebuilds). Just keep your eyes open and do your research.
Aesthetics:
Well this is a matter of your taste and pocketbook. You can go mild (rear spoiler, spoiler lip, tint, etc...) or go wild (redone interior trim, audio/video upgrade, reupholstery of interior, engine aesthetic upgrades, etc...)...good luck.
Keep us posted.
