2003 E55 AMG
New Member and New Owner of an E55 AMG

Hello, my name is Megan and I'm new to the site and wanted to introduce myself first of all and second ask for some advise/ help with my 03' E55 AMG. I recently bought the car used from a friend of a friend and it has a few issues that I am concerned about. My number one concern is a service light that keeps coming on that says " NO OIL SHUT OFF ENGINE" or something like that. I contacted the guy I bought it from and he assured me it was only because it was in need of an oil change and the light would go away once I did that, well it was gone for one day and is back. Also a service light is on that shows a picture of a battery that says "visit work shop". Im affraid to drive the car now. Can anyone help a poor girl out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Megan

Well if it says "visit workshop" dont you think you should take it to a mercedes dealer or a mechanic that can do that oil change for you?

Did you get an oil change? You might want to have the oil level sensor checked out as well...

Also you're probably going to need a new primary battery in the trunk.

Hopefully that solves your issues

I would get that looked at by a dealer. It could be a bad oil level sender, happened to me.

Umm, who did your pre purchase inspection? I don't want to alarm you, but you may be in for some bad news. Did the low oil level alarm come on after an oil change?

Not to alarm you as well, my vehicle has never given me that message when I was close to being due for an oil change... The closest was when my valve cover gaskets were leaking, it gave a display message saying to add 1qt of oil or something along that line...

Hopefully it's just a sensor though!

It came on before the oil change and after the oil change, since this car doesn't have a dip stick, I am not able to check the oil so I have to go to the dealership everytime.

Take it in on Monday to a good Indy who knows AMGs or to the dealer. Have them go over the car, put it on SDS, etc.. Then you'll know where you're at with the car. Kinda like a post-purchase inspection since you didn't do a pre-purchase inspection (with your next used car purchase, do a ppi.)

Don't worry, life gets better. Usually.

Check your oil before starting the motor with the instrument cluster. I would recommend checking multiple times within a day to find out if the readings make sense or seem erratic. That would help you determine if its an oil sensor malfunction (if your car hasn't said that in red already). You do know how to check your oil level using the display right?

Before turning your car on, get the instrument cluster to the page where it displays either your speed or temp, then hit the up/down track buttons on the steering wheel until it gets to the logo that looks like it'll give you an oil readout.

And may I add that as extremely hot as it was that you bought an E55, it was even hotter that you then complained about the car not having a dipstick. lol

Actually, the car doesn't ship from the factory with the dipstick but you can purchase one from the dealer and install it yourself... I can't remember the exact cost but I do remember thinking it was too much for a dipstick... Regardless, the vehicle still has the option to have a dipstick...

First of all welcome to the E55 AMG ownership experience with can be tricky sometimes.

Does you car look likes it burning oil when you inspect the tailpipes are they fairly clean or are they balckend?

I had a similar issue where now and again the low oil alert or add 1Qt at next fill up alert would trigger but after the car sat and cooled down the alert would go away and sometimes not even come back on the next time I drove the car. I changed the Oil Level Sensor and this resolved the problem.

It's a fairly simple job except you have to drain your oil again...

The visit workshop alert with battery could be anything from a battery that needs replacing to a faulty alternator or faulty voltage regulator.

First - welcome to the club; second - you should throw out your location so members can point you in the right direction in terms of indy shops, dealerships/SA's and even DIY help. A lot of times this info can save you significantly in time and money.

Hope everything works out!

First off, welcome. Like 220S mentioned, I would seriously consider finding a well referred MB indie shop to get your car checked out. Again, welcome to the family.
