*AMG ENGINE OIL*

Just to let the cat out to the bag..Mobil 1 decided to generate the engine oil just for the AMG engine only...Q1090015...it's in a grey color..0W-40.

Where did you get that info? It's not on M1's website. Q1090015 is 5W-40 bulk oil

Yeah, I don't get it. This is news?

0-40 is approved against MB 229.5 and the ESP 5-40 is Mercedes MB 229.51.

Either 0-40 or 5-40 is what people have been using all along.

What's the story?

I have them sitting here in my parts department. MB approval 229.5 and the previous 05W-40 is for non AMG Q1090142 ESP..That what MB recommended and that what we use in shop. I will post for update info later!

Say what? What's so new about 0-40? My dealer and Indy have been using that for a while.

Then AMG and MBUSA said 5-40 M ESP due to lower phosphorus to protect cats (they wrote the memo themselves and it's on the AMG PL forums.) But some people figure because the phosphorus is M1's equivalent of zinc protection, to stay with 0-40 (more phosphorus) and screw the cats.

So what the news here?

edit: me confused..... what are you trying to say?

+1 The 5W-40 ESP Formula M was specifically recommended by AMG for 63 engines on the AMG Private Lounge. All other AMG engines (except for SLR) were to continue to use Mobile's 0W-40.

Thanks, that's what I thought. But the OP is making it sound like there's some new 0W-40 out now that's specific only to AMGs. That's what confused me I guess.

mobile one is a great oil one of the best. But the only reason amg tell you to use it in are cars is coz mb have some sort of deal with them. if tomorrow mb made a deal with castrol then the amg cars will say use castrol.

Yeah we pretty much all know that (hence Jim's joke), but since most people here have a warranty they tend to stay with what MB recommends just in case.
If Daimler posts approved oils, it's usually best to stick with them while under warranty.
