Help with Akebono brakes!
I am thinking of getting Akebono brake pads, but my shop is advising me not to get them.
I am literally going crazy with the dirty wheels, and really want to make a change. It appears that they have good reviews from forum members, but I would like to hear your review of them after some miles on them.
How is the bite? Do you have a problem with squeeking?
Thanks - Nathan

Curious about the shops response as to why not to get them. I have them on my E55 and had them on my C43. The first thing to go was my stock pads. Cant stand the dust. Performance wise I cant tell the difference.

Akebono IMHO are better than stock, don't make dust, don't squeal (make sure you do put a dab of anti-squeal paste on the backs of the pads), wear the rotors.
Evenly more importantly though they feel better and seem to bite better than stock.

I have a black car and I'm a little "touched" when it comes to keeping it clean so washing the wheels is just part of the cost of doing business. . .
here's an interesting thread you may want to read:

Stay away from Akebono's, IMO. FWIW my experience was this: my long-time mechanic told me the same thing as yours did, but I went ahead and put Ake's on anyway. We did everything by the book (anti-squeel paste, bedded the brakes, etc.) and I got INSANE squeel. In the interest of full disclosure, I did not put the Ake's on new rotors, I still had my stock rotors on and they probably had 30% life left (FWIW). Maybe if you put Ake's on new (or newer than mine) rotors, you won't have the problems I did. But I wasn't willing to find out so I just went back to stock rotors/pads and more frequent wheel cleanings.

i have the akebonos on worn rotors...they are awesome. No dust, no squeal...I love them. FWIW I used the anti-squeal bought from a local autozone. I did on an excessive amount to be sure though.

YMMV as my calpier and rotors are different than yours. But I also had excellent results on my wife's Cadillac as well.
I covered the entire back of the pads with a thin layer of anti-squeal and not a peep.

Just installed Akebono pads up front and i get a little squeal right before dead stop. They still smell pretty bad too but im hoping that after a few days the squeak and smell go away. As for stopping power, i think they bite better than stock

I have these on my wife's E500 and have also never had any issues! I only did pads on hers and didn't really bed them in and waer is even, no squeel and good bite. BEST of all is NO dust!

I'm currently running Akebono pads with my Evorsport rotors and my rear brakes squeal like a pig. It's almost embarrassing coming to a stop with such noise. I'll be swapping back to stock pads in the rear to see if that helps the situation. Maybe they just don't like the floating rotors....
. Due to my only experience with the pad is bad I recommend not getting them.

My squeak is offically gone
. Took about 50 miles of driving to make the noise go away. I guess they had to set into the rotors since i only replaced the pads. My rotors look good for another 15-20k. Hope this helps you guys...

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Akenbono Euro series vs. the Euro Ultra Premium? I've seen references here to needing the EUR983 but the site I'm looking at doesn't show the series number.
Thanks,
