Cooling Mod Question
I currently have a pulley and tune and the car runs great without cooling mods. If I were to add headers, would I need to add cooling mods given the increase in horsepower and presumably heat?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I think the typical larger IC pump, H/E, and split cooling will do the trick. I am totally satisfied with the cooling I have done now knowing going forward. To be 100% honest though I am not planning on doing any type of engine mods besides headers and a tune because I do not race and really have no need for opening myself up to potential issues especially having a five year warranty I just bought six months ago.
Pulley and tune are going to introduce more heat by two ways.
1. Spinning supercharger faster which equals more heat.
2. The tune will lean your car out to optimize the power to make use of the fuel being introduced into the motor which in turn causes more heat.
The headers will actually drop boost slightly. which will equate to less heat. But if you can afford headers for this car you can afford to do it the right way and have them ceramic coated so that way the heat is not transfered excessively into the engine bay. Also coating the headers has proven time and time agin to make more power through thermal efficency of aiding in the exhaust gases escaping the motor.
IMHO you could get by without cooling mods if all these things were present.
1. As long as you didnt live in the deeep south or extreme west of the US
2. If you were not road racing the car or doing repeated top end runs in excess of 10 seconds or more.
3. If you went with coated headers.
4. Using no bigger than a 168mm pulley. Some might agree with no bigger than a 172mm.
5. A conservative tune.

yup = i agree with the last post -- you can see my mods --
My supercharger never turns off and I am in the Vegas summer heat -- I make some highspeed runs --- even with repeated quick pulls --
However, I am sure a HE upgrade would only bring me more HP and quickness -

as everyone else said H/E and pump is a must.
