Summer blend gas dyno testing
Today I spent most of my day working on and testing a small mod for the 55k's. When it was time to get on the dyno, I maxed out at 420whp. Thats down 30whp from my last dyno run. It was just about impossible to test this new product, due to heat soak, pulling timing.. It got to the point that we had to spike the summer blend 91oct with some 109oct. Just to get any sort of consistency. In the end Testing was aborted.
Here is where the summer blend gas comes in, My car has a stock tune Just some headers and thats it. After we heat soaked the motor we let it cool down again. then added 109oct. The end result was a gain of 40whp. Just by using good fuel. My best run pre-summer blend gas run was like 450whp. Just by using the available pump 91, I lost 30whp!
Understanding that the dyno will correct for crappy weather, it can not correct for bad fuel.
I think its safe to say just with summer blend gas, we loose about 30whp. Something even a cold day can't give back. Then if you factor in what you loose on the street under real world conditions in this heat. that power lose must be well of 50-60-70? wheel?
And to think the drag strip is open tonight. The Fall can not get here fast enough.

Being originally from Boston, Boston doesn't run a summer blend like the hot states on the west coast, and southwester US. Where in Boston are you from?

I live about 40 north of boston(haverhill) tonight the car felt really strong,we finally got some cold weather 60d tonight!!!

CRAZY!!!!! I went to the now defunct Bradford College. I lived in Haverhill on Washington Street downtown for like 6 years. I lived off Sky Dragon Chinese food when I was in college.

I use to walk out of my apartment onto Washington street. and walk across the street to River City Billards (I think that place is closed now) The ChitChat and the the TAP, and the Pedlar's Daughter.

Interesting - around here, our "summer blend" is the good stuff... it's the "winter blend" where they short-change you a bit on the contents, AFAIK.

Dude those skanks, made Haverhill fun. Matty Mitch, the old bartender at RCB, had an M3 as well. In fact there was a few guys I'd talk to that had M3's back in the day. I rented a house in Plum Island Ma about a month ago, I was in Haverhill showing my Lady around.
@ Brett, thats strange. Slow AMG's in AZ this time of year.

Oh I don't doubt it... slow everything if I had to guess. It's been a brutally hot summer here, but nothing even close to what you guys have had out west/southwest.
And, logically, it makes sense that the refineries/suppliers/stations/etc would skimp on you guys during the summer... the air is "thinner" due to the heat and humidity, so the average run-of-the-mill Corolla can get by with less octane. Performance enthusiasts, OTOH, are gonna be perturbed.
