blacking out taillights ?
I wanted to know what you think is best. How did you get yours done?
I know there are several options
1.Have body shop paint them..
2. Paint them yourself.. nightshade?
3. Have them tinted..
I liked the tint idea so I dont have a perminent blacked out taillight incase one day I dont want them on there anymore. Where can you get them done or where can you buy the film? locally here in san antonio tx, I havnt found anyone that tints the taillights..
thanks
This is a pic of my blacked out tails and my smoked.

It's a little dark but they are a deep cherry red and the lights during the day and night are not effected at all. The car looks much better then the dull stock red tail light color imo at least on a black car.
so u do heavy coats wont that make them like BLACK BLACK?
ps ur car looks good. i have the same color. even on stock rims. did u paint ur side moldings? lowered with star?
I have some nightshades how did u all prep them? sand them then paint then clear? heavy coats of nightshade? or light coats then heavy on clear?
I have called alot of tint places no one seems to tint the tails.

I just did one heavy coat of nightshades. It did get them a little dark but not black. All that I did to prep them was take them out, clean them really good, and tape off the clear parts. I felt that sanding would be unnecessary because they are in the back and won't be hit with rocks or bugs. Make sure to lay them flat and not standing up so that there is less chance of running. Here is a little better of pic on how dark they came out with one heavy coat.

If I were to do it again, I would do light shades of tint and a heavy coat of clear. It would be a little less scary and you would be able to better control the shade.
I lowered the car with washers and vinyled the all the chrome trim in matte black. Emblems and grille are painted though.
Hope this helps.

I blacked out my grill and emblems. but hate the crome molding and need to lower the car. how did u do the washers im not to familiar with them. also are your ricks stock color or painted? car looks so sick..
when u said if u could do it again u said u would tint them with a heavy coat of clear ? like tint as in film or paint still?

I am not a big fan of chrome either. Using vinyl on the molding strips and door handles was a pretty easy process. A little time consuming but easy.
There is a DIY on the washer drop in the DIY thread that I used for help. I did see a lot of concern about the bolts not being long enough and when you put the washers in, there aren't enough threads left to hold the nut safely. So what I did was drill the original bolt out and put a longer one in. This allowed me to use more washers to go lower and still have enough threads to get the nut on all the way. Once you see the DIY thread you will know what I am talking about. The rims are powdercoated dark grey.
If I were to tint the tails again, I would do light coats of nightshades to get the preferred shade and then a heavy coat of clear spray paint to give them a glossy finish.
