Operation Rolling Thunder

I'm starting a new project dub'd ^^^ I'm setting out to develop and design a bolt-on or axle back Muffler exhaust system for the w211 E55. Being that I have an SL55, I think we are in kind of the same boat. That being the mufflers are just not aggressive as we would like. With the stuff coming out of Germany the price tag is $$$.

Quick story: Many people have seen the backwards "L" shaped mufflers available for Mercedes. There is one made in China or Korea that looks the same and sounds just about the same. That muffler system was designed by.... MBH motorsports lead fabricator, back when he worked for a very large exhaust and header manufacturer. Then sent over sea to be mass produced on an affordable level. In fact he still has the cutout templates to make that muffler.

This is his design, before it was sent over seas.

Will we be making that style of muffler? No. Rather doing something more along the lines of a ground up project.

So Operation Rolling Thunder need an E55 for some testing in the next month. What I'm offering is making the system for some lucky person for only the cost of materials. MBH motorsports will be covering labor, dyno testing and install. So if someone is interested in working on a ground up muffler bolt-on or axle back system at a huge discount. We would need your car for about 3 days. This would include the fabrication of hand made custom exhaust tips as well. PM me or reply to the thread if you are interested.

I've always thought a valved exhaust would be awesome on our cars. Was going to try fabricate one myself.

Basically would be 3" back that would split via an electronic cutout with one straight pipe to a tip through a muffler and one side being chambered / muffled.

I might already have something for the W210 E55... Also on a side note. There is a truck load of W210 RENNtech stuff at the shop "in stock" a lot of it might be cosmetic. However it might be worth a call and see what they will blow out the door.

Trust me I know about drone.. My Last system I tried out some stupid mufflers that just crushed my skull at cruising speed. They sound alright, but looked stupid. So I know exactly What I'm not going to use. I had a nice muffler set ready to go for my old C55, but then I totaled it.

Yeah I'm done with drone, been there done that. My SL drones a little, after I chopped the resonators out. My brothers CLS sounds way meaner and has zero drone. I think drone will be a big issue on the SL55 system more then the E, but I will be on the look out for the drone bug.

MBH, if you would, can you also show the weight savings (if any) with your exhaust system. Thanks ahead for any response.

Sure I will keep that in mind... However saving weight from a lighter exhaust is really not the place you want to save it from. Its the lowest part of the car, Plus the weight of the mufflers may even help with rear end grip in a hard launch. But I will try to remember to weigh it for S&G's.
