Question E55 Tire Sizing Help

Hey everyone. I want to get the Nitto NT555R tires for my OEM rims but I don't think the front wheels have a wide enough width for the Nitto's. Is it bad to get two different tires in the front and two different in the rear? Also, what do you guys recommend for a maximum summer performance tire?

Would it be bad to run 245/40/18 in the front and 285/35/18 in the rear?

There should be no rubbing with the 285 in the rear but I would think that 285 be a bit to "loose" for the rear rims..... maybe 275 would be a better fit

I agree, 275's would fit better. And no it's not uncommon at all to run two different tire sizes, types or brands front and rear. Just make sure fronts match and rears match exactly.

So have we established that 275s are the way to go or 285s for the stock 18s?

correct, 285's on stock wheels will cause them to stick out a bit pass the rear quarter panels.

285s will fit but 275s are about as wide as I would go due to the loose factor.

By loose, Mo was talking about the excess sidewall that is now at an angle. As the car makes lateral moves, the tires have so much side to side movement that the car will tend to feel "soft" on the rear end and could lose traction.

By the same token, you could argue that the added flex would help on straight launches with keeping the rubber from skipping, but these sidewalls arent made for that and I never got that idea to help.

In the end, I put the rear rims with the OEM 265s onto the front and bought a set of 07SL550 rears and put 295s on them for the rear
