Possible lower IAT's

OK, so I've been around motorsports in Europe and the U.S. since the early 60's. I've always tried to study a good design and see if it can be further improved upon just as so many have done just that with the 113 motor. But the 113 is jammed into a stodgy passenger car and it's down right pretty sitting in that engine bay with a pretty front cover and extremely effective seals isolating any cool ram air from flowing over the blower (don't want to fill that pretty engine bay with dust and road grime). Soooo, why not remove the front engine cover and the 16" section of that really big rubber seal that is located between the two vertical seals just over the air box inlets? The engine bay should be a negative pressure zone. Seems to me, with the front seal and front engine cover removed, there would be substantially more cool ram air flowing over the front and top of that really big heat sink of a blower. I would certainly have done that on my race cars.

I'm really not setup to monitor IAT's, but this mod can't take more than 76 seconds and it seems many of you have data loggers. If there is no improvement, snap the engine cover back on and replace the section of rubber seal material and marvel once again at your clean engine bay.

What do you think?

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
Worth a shot. I might try this tonight just to see what happens. It would make alot of sense if you were doing road course type stuff or driving around in super hot weather.

Last time I was at Road Atlanta it was super hot! If I take my car I will have to keep this in mind.

i've had both of those removed for quite some time and while there's no measurable difference in iat's, the additional blower noise sure does sound good (espeially if you have your sunroof open).

But it may reduce the rate-of-IAT-rise, specifically on a long WOT pull and it may decrease the time to cool the blower between pulls.

What if there were no hypotheticals?
