E55 misfire?
When i first start the car up there is a misfire for a few seconds and then it seems to go away. Last week it did it for about 5 minutes and turmed check engine light on but after a 160 mile drive the light turned off? Has anyone had this problem before?

Have you had the fault codes read? You don't list your location, but in the good 'ole USA most auto parts stores will read the codes for free. Based on your description, I expect you have a misfire on one cylinder.
What was the weather like on the day it ran so badly - damp and rainy? How many miles on the car? Are the spark plugs original, or have they been changed? Were the correct plugs used?
Best guess - you need new plugs and wires. The wires seem to last about 7 years on these cars, then you start getting idle problems. This seems to be the case for all the M112 and M113 family engines - all the V6 and V8 motors from 1998 to 2006ish.

Gotta get those codes pulled bro. Either detailed reading at stealer from Star or local Autozone.
She'll tell ya what is wrong with her. Bout the only good thing about having these cars stuffed with sensors. Not always dead on the problem but she will point you in the right direction.
