Next Mod 82mm (Maybe... eek) :wimpy:

So my question is this: If I put on an 82mm throttle body, would I need to tune immediately, or could I drive around for a while?

Since the tuner is 130 miles north of me, I would probably install, and the go get an update to the tune done 2 weeks ago. My concern is A/F ratio.

I would not want to be running extra lean, and I assume the added airflow could do exactly that. Has anyone done some baseline pulls after a TB upgrade prior to tune that might make me feel better?

your fine -- but i wouldnt push the car over 5000 rpm -- or you will start risking a lean burn.

I bought a used stock e55 tb from ebay for 151 shipped.Im going to bore it out as much as I can and ill let you know how it works out.

I had a 82 but it was throwing codes.

With the boring out stock tb im not going to bore it all the way and useva bigger blade, that way at idle the car is going to see the same tps% as stock.

Are you going to grind the blade post? That seems to make a big increase in flow when needed most WFO

The thing that has had me on the fence is the codes. There are so many posts that it could have it's own forum. I asked Jeremy amout it, and he said "No Problem"

BUT.... I also think people are finding power without the upgrade. Maybe I am ahead of myself. I am going to see what I can do at Famoso with my setup the way it is, and then do some comparitive reviews. You guys have blazed the path..

I had codes, and alot of others did too.I took the 82mm kit off and returned it.I am going to grind the blade also. This shouldnt throw any codes because Im not going to bore it all the way and leave the stock blade in there so the ecu will see the same blade angle for its idle rpm.

Its also a direct bolt on and I wont need to take the supercharger off again,if it dont work Im only out about 150 bucks and a few hours of my time.

If you do end up going with the 82mm tb make sure you get an MB OEM 550 tb

I have a 82MM sitting here that I have yet to install because of all the codes and crap people have experienced. I shaft ported and knife edged/blended the bore on my stock TB and have felt strong gains. I just trapped almost 122mph with that setup so I might not even bother with the 82mm. I'll let you know if I decide to sell it.

When I swapped in my 82mm tb I did have an ESP message. I turned out to be a lose wire. Once I got the figured out it's been perfect since. Also when I first installed the 82mm tb the idle was a little rough, but that also went away after the ECU addapted to the tb. Good luck. I loved mine.

Interesting, i have a 82mm TB in my W210 (SC'ed). And when i go WOT the car just shut off all the power and stalls at 1200 rpm without any gas response I also get the ESP warning on the dash!? Where was the lose wire?

Thanks

my friend got one of the newer 82mm. The vendor promised no problems or codes... I was skeptical. The 2 of us did the install ourselves and it worked! I was shocked but there has been no problems at all. The car has been running with it for a few months now.
I am glad it worked for my friend because that is a decent investment....but its not one I am willing to risk... the reward is not enough for me.

The only time I have the idling problem is the very first time I start up the car after the tb install.

The loose wires were in the tb connector. I guess one of the six wire was loose. Just pushed them back in and wrap some electrical tape was enough to solved my ESP problem.

The best way to go about the 82mm tb would be the MB 82mm tb. They are rare, but it's plug and play (you still have to get an adapter plate and the 82mm y pipe). If anyone need one, I have an extra MB 82mm tb .

I bought the other TB from same seller thanks to your post many thanks.

Was just about to purchase the 82mm but I will try this first bored out. Did you get yours yet? I feel I should also have the plenum bored for that but I not willing to rip the entire supercharger off for this project yet, for the 82mm it would be another thing...

How prevalent are those 82mm TB issues really? Guess I should do a search.

so which 82mm throttle body upgrade works with our cars? Does the one that Eurocharged sell for $1,899.00 works without problems?

It seems as though most had the most luck with MB's throttle body.

I have an EC 82mm tb and definitely feel that it makes more power. Right after install the car pulled a lot harder. It was a very noticeable difference. I have never thrown a code with it, but I do feel that it effects driveability somewhat. There is more on/off with the throttle. It takes a little relearning to modulate the throttle for smoothness. And also, shamelss plug, I will be selling the whole unit if anyone is interested.

We spoke on the phone didn't we?

I told you plug and play, totally stock looking and NO ISSUES!

Except for the issue that you had when the connectors were plugged in wrong! I know you guys must have been WTF!

Fixed in 60 seconds once Justin told me the issue!

Tell Justin he still owes me his stock TB housing! That was the deal! What up?

I hear that kit you guys got is by far the best quality kit and the most complete for a real reasonable price too. Maybe if there is enough demand, those of us that want one can talk the vendor into a group buy. I might be interested in one.

you'll be fine, I've had my porsche 82mm TB since april and I've been running it without a tune since then. Worked fine and no problems other than the occasional code but thats not too big of a problem!

But i WILL be tuning it so at least you know you can run without a tune!
