Throttle body help

Someone please tell me how to remove the rubber cover that is on the stock 74mm throttle body. That thing is kicking my butt.

Are you talking about the part that goes to the air box? If so there is a Tab on the top that snaps on and there is a matching one on the back/under side

Actually I was talking about the rubber cover that sits on the throttle body's left side. I guess it's an insulator to protect the electronic thingys in the throttle body from the engine heat.

I was under the impression that I needed it off to put on the throttle body that I'm installing on the car. Plus, I'm having a hard time getting the wire harness unplugged with that cover on the throttle body. Both sides of the harness has this crud on there that's making it hard to come out.

well- you are wrong -- that is not designed to come apart... the wiring harness-- be patient and you will figure it out --- I suggest you have someone who has some mechanical ability help you -- it seems you dont have experience working on cars or anything.

Actually I'll just keep working on it myself. Thanks for the advice though. Now if anyone can provide some good guidance I would surely appreciate it.

there is a simplier way, mb sells a throttle body extension cable that will connect your old throttle body cable to the new throttle body.

i dunno - only takes me 15 minutes to take off the TB -- I dont see the difficulty. Just take it out -- its simplier than changing your oil -- only thing easier is changing your belts.

Get a hammer.. if it doesn't work, get a bigger hammer.

There should be no reason to take off the cover. Get the little extender cable. It is cheap.

Like someone said earlier, that rubber piece is epoxied in. Use a screw driver and pry it off. It'll come off. And the TPS wire extension is not cheap, it's a hundred dollar and I have to order it.

sorry, I dont know what you are smoking -- but you dont need to take off the Supercharger to remove a TB.

You need to remove the supercharger if you are adding a larger TB that requires an adapter plate or new snout....

JorJack, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Are you replacing the t/b with another 74, 80, or 82? Are you removing it to modify it?
Are you aware that if you follow the t/b cable down there is another connector you can separate to remove the t/b?

exactly. leave the harness connected at the TB and disconnect the other end. You may have to remove the TB to access the other end.

good luck trying to get to the other end lol, that sucker is down there tight!!!!.I dont see why you need to take off the rubber enless you want to take the tps sensor off the tb.

4 bolts and a flat head to pry the tb off the snout.ohh and those clips on the tb cable can be tricky,I broke mine and just ripped the thing off on my tb adventures when the stupid 82mm tb decided to eat my tb ring gasket and leave me stranded on the highway.

I think I saw your post about your TB try to eat your gasket. So when I did my TB I didn't use the gasket, just used silicon gasket maker material instead and it's been fine.

I'm installing a grinded 74mm tb. I think I'm just gonna order another cable and go that route. Looking at the stock tb that's on my car now I just assumed that the rubber housing needed to go back on to my modified tb.

Yeah those freakin clips are what put a halt to my throttle body removal. I just didn't want to break the thing. I haven't had the car long enough to justify breaking anything yet. Not even the speed limit!

Do you guys think if I remove my TB that my gasket will still be good or use the silicone gasket maker?
