Taking the GM bailout out of the discussion and concentrating on just the V series...
I dig the car. I haven't driven the coupe, but I have driven the sedan. It reminded me of a hot rodded E55. A little rougher around the edges, but a great car to drive. The interior materials were good but the design leaves something to be desired. The center stack was way too busy and I didn't like the gauge layout.
As far as GM reliability vs. MB reliability, in my experience I have not seen a big difference in the cars I've owned. The service experience makes any MB problems seem minor vs. the hassle of taking a GM vehicle in for service.

And Look What Parked Next To Me
When we bring the car from Florida we get more attention because we have no front plate. (A very serious offense in the EU because the photo speed traps need the driver's face and the car license number, but we receive an exemption as long as we are gone in less than 6 months).
This was at Schloss Johannisberg a few days ago.
