Help.. P0160 and P0161

Bank 2 Sensor 2 inactivated and heater code

To start, got this code last week about 20 minutes after I got gas and did not tighten gas cap all the way.

I actually pulled those 2 codes along with one more for a Small Evap leak

Tightened gas cap, filled up once again, cleared code, came back with only the o2 codes.

SO i figured I needed to replace the o2 sensor.

Sunday I replaced the 02 sensor, it automatically got rid of codes, filled up with gas, been fine for the last 48 hours. I replaced the passenger side downstream or farthest from manifold.

Tonight when I started my car to leave work, I got the P0160 and 161 codes. So it was fine for almost two days, now the code again.

Cleared them on my way home, not sure if they will pop up tomorrow...?

Any ideas on what might be triggering this

f*ck...these o2 heater codes have been like the plague lately. i'm quite certain this is not a sensor or sensor wiring problem so don't keep wasting money replacing them. what kind of tune do you have?

each o2 sensor has a built in heater element that helps bring it up to operating temp. lately there have been a rash of tuned cars getting theses codes that tell the ecu that the heater element is no longer working. my concern is does this lead the ecu to start using default maps or alter fuel/ignition because it no longer trusts o2 sensor readings???

either way, it's not an o2 sensor problem. something else is going on here...

If I read this correctly, you replaced the wrong sensor. Bank 2 is the drivers side.sensor 2 is the rear, replace the correct one and you should be ok.

nice catch scott! maybe this particular case is as simple as a bad o2 sensor.

Hers - 2003 C320. His - 2004 330i zhp 6 speed.
Any updates on this? I just pulled the same two codes after the CEL went on in normal driving in a 320 with no modifications. The codes are:
P0160 O2 sensor circuit no activity detected
p0161 o2 sensor heater circuit
The scan tool also showed these messages when monitoring sensor data with engine running:
fuel system 2 status: closed loop, O2 sensor fault
fuel system 1 status: closed loop
Should I suspect a bad DRIVER's side post-cat O2 sensor?
