Question Help Diagnosing Issues

Hey guys, buddy of mine who's not on the boards has a stock 08 E63 with about 15,000miles on it. Was wondering if you can help diagnose these issues, number 1 is by by far the most important...

1... When the engine is at low revs and the car approaches as slight incline and is given some gas there is a "chr-chr-chr" sound. Possibly from the transmission, it occurs in both D and M and occurs everytime he accelerates below 50mph. Issue is NOT there during acceleration from a STOP/0mph. Beverly hills MB were useless and said it was "normal." Has been happening for about 8,000 miles...

2... Major creaking from the pano roof. I did a search on this site and it said either lubricant needed or the rails may be out of alignment. Does this cover it and can it be fully fixed? Any dealer/tech recommendations?

3... CEL appreared on the dash, car seems to run okay. He's taking it to the dealer (not BH) this weekend but any suggestions would be welcome in case this dealer is clueless also.

Thanks

-Rob

Not really, It's sounds almost like someone scrunching paper together in their hand, almost a crackling. I know this description is bad, I'll try and think of better.

this may sound stupid but have you all check under the car to see if any belly pan is hanging or touching a moving part

check exhaust mounts and exhaust clearance.... might be catching somewhere when u hit the max torque... check motor / g/box / diff carrier mounts.

Sounds like to me under the circumstances you describe it happens when u are putting maximum torque thorugh the drivetrain flexing the mounts to max which may compromise clearances to chasis / exhaust.

And, no, its not normal. I tell u all delaers can do these days is read codes and follow the manuals verbatim... no young mechanic I have seen lately can think outside the box. They are dumb f they dont have a "code"... having said that ... your code ought to give u some clue though and sounds like it could also something more fundamental than pieces rubbing under torque.

Thanks Shardul and Steve for the input...I'm jotting these down on a pad so he can at least throw whatever usless SA he talks to an idea or two

btw, to make clear the CEL only came on 48hrs ago, the "sch-chr" sound has been going on about 6 months.

There are service bulletins that need to be checked. Make certain to do the TB brackets, Im looking for the thread , sounds like the brackets and or the tappet.
Might be worth ordering the non amg version of the sprint booster as well.

just be persistant with the service advisor. Take him with you to replicate the problem, if it requires a hill find a hill. Get the build date and post it that will help , perhaps the ECU has not been updated nor the TCU.

If you are in LA Id be happy to meet you guys and put the car through some tests perhaps at Fomoso , lol

Hmm... Does the noise gets louder as u go faster? n Does the car have to be moving?? I know these motor they do have problem with the camshaft adjusters being noisy. Pano roof they do creak a lot, I had to lower the headliner and tighten up the sliding roof tray, applied lube n felt tape in different places depends on your situation. CEL easier way just hook up a SDS to it.

+1

Check the heat shields around the exhaust. As the engine is is given gas it will move, when the engine moves so will the exhaust system. That is what makes things like this hard to find when the car is on a lift, you are looking for a dynamic problem in a static state.

+111111111 Dealers, are dumb Fs
