Like I said this is probably only going to be temporary, I am looking into the Meisterschaft as we speak.

I had my mufflers removed and used straight pipe and aftermarket quad round tips and it came out pretty nice. I'll try to snap a pic tonight and post it. The shop was able to offset the tips similiar to the stock setup. It looks more aggressive than stock but does not look bad at all. As far as the sound goes, it sounds just about perfect. It does not sound like a truck at all which is what I was afraid of with a magnaflow system etc. The only issue I have is some droning at about 1400-1700 rpm. I am all stock except for straightpipe instead of mufflers. Does anyone have a suggestion to get rid of the drone? What about an aftermarket resonator in place of the stock one?

If it will fit a magnaflow 12468 x pipe muffler will help cut down the drone alot. I have been installing them on G8's since they are bad about drone with LT and aftermarket mufflers.

does anyone know the dimensions of the stock resonator? I like the idea of substituting that magnaflow x muffler in place of the stock resinator if it will fit. I wonder if that would kill the drone more than the stock resonator.

our resonator is basically a cross flow muffler since it merges both streams so i doubt you'll see any better results with a magnaflow x muffler.

+1 on Meisterschaft FTW, but Mike at MBH motorsports is creating an exhaust that will be the same or better and cheaper! Might want to wait and see what happens first.

I like to keep things simple and functional.
When I swapped out my mid section and resonators for a 3" X-pipe and straight pipes I saved an honest 28lbs (to addition to the 29lb reduction in wheels plus headers weight savings) , and picked up a real nice V8 deep tone at low end with no drone. Just a small tap of the accelerator opens it up that gets attention from those around me. Stock mufflers are tough to beat in appearance , and car has stock primary cats with PLM headers. I may swap out the cats for some 200/300 cats next month.

Nice bends that keep the stock body brace intact.

Yeah, But im at a road block right now. Everything I've tried thus far, I just haven't liked. One sounds awesome but drones, the other sound bad and doesn't drone. I dont want to reinvent the wheel. There are a bunch of great options out there. So searching, and trying to compete with the proven muffler makers... has proven to be harder than it seems. However I wont quit until I've got a winner. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

or
you can do the math and try a J pipe at the rear.

besides a possible weight reduction (don't know for sure), i can't imagine the magnaflow being any better in performance or quality than our stock resonator, especially since it's 1/4" smaller at the inlets/outlets.

the 12468 is what fits directly into the G8 aftermarket exhaust. They have a 3" version also. like I said until someone does a AB comparison, you don't know how good the stock stuff is. I allways test stuff before and after to see what I gain or loss.
