Guys, after spending some time on this board, I decided to clean my air filters, remove my Charcoal filters and cut the intake flaps, all this went very smoothly, but as I was doing this I couldn't help to notice that there are some little holes at the bottom of the air box:
Theses are not big holes for sure, but I was under the impression that an air box needed to be completely sealed, specially if one want to benefit from a ram effect, as th air pressure will try to escape the easy way (through the holes, not though the air filters).
What you guys think ? Did it worth closing theses holes and sealing the air box ?
These are the drain holes that AMG designed in the airbox. Due to the intake placement right behind the grill it ingests leaves, sand etc but also water spray from the vehicles say that is in front of you. Although it might not seem to be alot, that little bit can add up. Currently we are getting alot of rain in Virginia right now, your car is sucking in alot of air, but always road spray and rain water. If you close up those holes, that water will not have any place to drain from. Thus coating your air filter with water, that will eventually ingest. Depending on how much rain is coming down, like in a torrential rain storm. Hydro-lock is a possibility, but strongly unlikely. But if the other car splashes water into your grill, in the case of big trucks hitting a deep puddle that sometime happens, it a definite possibility. Mercedes wouldn't have designed this, if it didn't have a purpose. Seal them up at your own risk. I'm leaving mine alone.
