hi, i was told to re-post this on this forum. sorry if you find it redundant:
Hi. I am totally new and have only ever owned one MB (an 80 300TD) that i didn't like very much. i am in the market for a car to replace my stolen subie sti and my fiance's volvo xc70. i like the specs of the e55 and the e63 although it appears that the e63 is a better handler and loses the eatons.
the handling's important; but, better tires can influence handling way beyond the basics and no one compares cars with the same tires...
so, can anyone tell me that the e63 is much better than the e55? if so, for which reasons? also, does anyone have a list of failure mechanisms that are common for these cars?

I had a STI and it handled a lot better than the E55, but to me the power more than makes up for the handling. I haven't driven an E63 but given the specs it's also not going to be comparable to the STI.
However, I felt that the STI had a pretty harsh ride and lacked on features. This is where the AMG's shine, power and luxury you can't beat that. Plus the E55 would spank the STI in the straights.

There are, at last count, over 11 billion threads comparing the E55 and E63. The wagon doesn't make the argument different. I'd suggest a simple search.
That said, one big question is: "Stock or Modded". If you want to Mod, you want an E55.
