Another fuel leak story uncut

Well I took the beloved E55 to the dealership to have the SBC unit replaced under the extended warranty and have the trans serviced. I do 90% of the work on the car myself but some things are best left to the dealer.
I asked them to check out the fuel leak. Low and behold, both the fuel level sensor and the filter/pump units are leaking and leaking pretty bad in that matter.
They quoted me $1,063 to fix, which I agreed to. I asked the Service Advisor why in the world there is an issue with fuel leaks on these cars and when Mercedes was going to address it and issue a recall before someone gets hurt. Her response to me was " It's a 2004 with 70k miles on it you can expect these things to start happening??? WTF?
And to top it off, the level sensor unit is back ordered from Germany. Doesn't that tell you something why they are burning through them,(no pun intended).

Yeah, it's kinda suck, but I no longer fill my car up to the brim anymore. I actually only put in about 15 gal to avoid any future problem. Such a *****, but I can't help it. I can't imagine driving anything else.
