Check Engine Light on...

Hey folks,

I noticed the check engine light came on today while driving. Only mod I have is a Sprint Booster. Just removed it, as I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow AM. I took a picture of the dash display and am not sure I got the right display. From the temp display, pushed the reset button 3 times quickly. Anyone have any idea's? Is it TPS related, or am I just being a nutbag thinking it could be the Sprint Booster causing a problem?

I have a slight hesitation (same as in the thread we are seeing pop up again) so I am going to re-read and print it off for the dealer tomorrow.

If I am doing something wrong, would appreciate some guidance please...

Thanks,
Tom

connect the car to a OBDII scanner and get the fault code. When the CEL is on you cannot reset it through the instrument cluster.
No TPMS cannot trigger the CEL.

Thanks Shardul. I am set to go to PPMBZ in Dallas tomorrow AM. Was not sure if that was even the correct fault code. Sounds like it's not. Will post the resolution tomorrow.

Ugh... TPMS!!! What am I thinking... Not TPMS, but TPS; Throttle Position Sensor.. Not Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Damn,,, I must be exhausted...

Faulty TB will cause a TPS error since idle position will be off. Remove SB and see if code goes away after a couple of drive cycles

Ok, went to the dealer on Friday.. Forget the pic above. Has nothing to do with the 'problem'... The reason for the CEL was.... Manifold gaskets... Go figure..codes were 0745 and 2091. Seems to run a bith stronger now.. Also, no more 1/2 second hesitation taht I was feeling before. I am guessing that could be a sign of a vacuum leak. I took out the sprint booster just in case that was causing the CEL (it wasn't), and I noticed the hesitation I felt from zero on was gone. To make sure, I drover it Fri, Sat & Sun.. So... if you have the hesitation, see of the manifold gaskets are leaking...

RE: Hesitation

You experienced exactly what I did last Winter. I believe mine threw the same codes which equate to a lean cylinder bank(s). My car ran noticably stronger/smoother after new gaskets and I've never had any hesitation issues since.

I ran a Sprintbooster on my 05 E500 years ago, but that car was configured with considerable throttle pedal lag, and it did help. IMO I'm not sure this car needs a Sprintbooster. On mine throttle response in pretty immediate and aggressive as is, does it meaningfully change anything?

The SB makes the acceleration seem a bit more agressive... for example, if the throttle is at 25% with the SB connected, it sends a signal to the throttle body to open at 50%. The car's not really any faster, but the aggressive TB signal makes the car shift up/down more aggressively, so you can drive with a softer foot, but still get the feel of agressive shifts. I am thinking I no longer need the SB now that the hesitation seems to have gone now. Will drive a few more days as-is before I decide to sell it or keep it...
