Taking the front clip off

Have any of you guys taken off the front clip from your E55? I want to know how difficult it is and can it be done with basic tools or do you need special MB stuff.

I plan to take it off this weekend and install the Cm30 and HE. I have heard it is not that tough, just a few bolts and she comes right off

Easy, no special tools

A couple sockets, long flathead screwdriver, and a philips head and you are good to go. Also a dental pick or tiny pin to take off your grilles without breaking the retaining clips.

I believe I had to take out the wheel well liners on both sides to get the front bumper off...

Dont remove your fenders.. no need

1st, remove your grills.

Than there are two bolts that you can get to behind the center grill, they attach the bumper to your core support.

Than there are four bolts, 2 on each side right on top of the bumper by your headlights and running lights.

Remove those two bolts from each side.

Than remove your underside plastic, I usually just remove the 1st sheild.

There are two plastic push tabs at either end of the bumper underneath, pop those out.

Remove your corner parking lights, temp sensor, and parktronic harness, you can get to them once you are under the car.

Than inside each front wheel well, there is 2 to 3 tabs on each side you have to remove so you can pull back the lining to get to the bumper mounting hardware. Start at the front of the wheel well and only go to the very top. You don't need to remove the entire lining.

Then just peel back the inside lining to get the last torque screw holding the metal sliding bracket that connects bumper to qtr panel.

Use your flat head, and hammer or bang the metal slide towards the front of the car until it pops off. This is the trickiest piece to reinstall so take your time and don't break it.

If you search the DIY or the stickys, I know there is a good thread with pictures on this forum.... just can't find right now.
