Kompressor clutch replacement pics

Well I took the plunge and spent the $880.00 plus tax for a new Kompressor clutch. I noticed alot of rough engagement and chirping was getting worse. Figured it was time. Amazing enough the bearing was still in good shape.

As you can see from the pics, 80k miles takes it toll on the clutch. I was also tipped off by a Mercedes tech to remove two of the spacers that are located behind the clutch unit. He said it would help with no chirping in the future and allow for a bit quicker engagement.

What a difference it made! No chirp and very smooth engagement. Traction light was on alot more and earlier than before.

It only took 30 minutes to replace. Pull the cooling fan and front shroud out and you can get to the bolt with an impact. the clutch comes with a new bolt and spacers.

So $880 is the retail price for all the parts needed?
And the labor is usually 1/2 hr at the dealer?

I replaced mine last weekend, very easy to do. I used some feeler gauges to set the spacing at .35mm which is the lower end of the spec.

$880 is the price my dealer charged me for the parts. Not sure how many hours the dealer would bill for since I did the install myself.

The part number for the "kit" is 113 090 0044

Did you verify how much clutch clearance you have after removing those two shims? MB calls for .35-.45mm clearance.
My concern is that the clutch would be partially engaged when the ECU is calling for disengagement.

I will check the clearance with a feeler gauge, thanks for the info. He said the remove two of the spacers so maybe that puts you closet to .35.
