Are later model Nav units a simple upgrade into the 2003 E55 model?

Are later model Nav units a simple upgrade into the 2003 E55 model?
My '03 came with the pre-Navi head unit. I would like to upgrade to the larger screen version, possibly with Nav. Are these simple, plug & play upgrades or is there additional legwork and compatability/wiring issues I might encounter? I'd be buying a unit from an '04-'06, if I can find one and there are no huge hurdles.

The COMAND unit is plug and play. For nav, you will have to get the drive, maybe brackets and wiring to extend the MOST bus.

Very east to do. Took me about 1hrs to install everything. You will need Comand unit, Nav DVD drive, cage to hold the DVD drive, and GPS splitter. The car comes prewired.

Where did you run the cable back to the trunk Shar?

you have to remove the door sill on the rear driver side and you will find 4 orange fiber optic cables. 2 og them have a black connector and 2 are not connected. you need to disconnet the ones what are connected and connected to the ones that are not connected, so you can have nav drive in the MOST ring. I know it sounds confusing.
