Are there any updates as of today? My car is practically unusable with this gas smell inside. I pulled the rear seat out and checked for puddles under the black plastic cover but it's dry. I haven't opened the sensor covers off but I'm sure that's where the problem is.

Does anyone have a recall paper in PDF form or DTB on this issue?

I'm having the issue now too in my E63. Came out in the morning to the garage and was afraid to make a spark.

Dealer wanted $1700+! I refused and fixed it for $5!

Located the issue on the passenger side fuel sending unit and squeezed a tube of liquid sealing on it. I'll take pictures tonight.

It might be a stretch but try the EPA. They are a little more aggressive in their actions. Typically, it is only 2 years and 24,000 miles.for emissions but if they can group with the OBD side it would be 8 years or 80,000 miles. Give them a call. The size and scope of the issue may help you pique their interest in helping you and others.

I was/am chasing this problem right now. Filled tank a couple times and fuel was leaking from top of tank down to drivers sender. When I put 10-15 miles on her its gone. Pulled tank down , Smoked entire system for an hour. Used mirrors and a snake camera to find the crack/leak and nothing. Said screw it I will fill tank again and then I will be sure to see it. And OF COURSE NO LEAK anywhere even with lowering the tank again. My guys spent over 4 hours of diag! Good times!
Now on to the "thump" in trunk noise even after a coil over swap and lower control arms . Much worse when cold and stiff shock settings. Again....goood times .

I fixed it by replacing both seals and fastened the black screw on rings really really tight. Waited a week and fastened them even more. Smell is gone. MB dealership wanted $1700 plus for 2 new fuel sensors/pump/filter assembly. Rediculous how they try to scam their customers.

If the seals are black they are the originals from the time of assembly of your car, if they are green they have been changed at some point.
