CL63
Drove a new CL63 with the power package. Remarkable!!! Around $200K (also remarkable) in Germany. Just wait until the tuners and everyone else starts to work this machine over. 700 HP should be no problem - - - hey, Porsche already has a 3.9 liter 600 HP machine right out of the box.

I think you and a lot of other people are assuming the ECU's are going to be easy to crack and tune. When in fact, they apparently are going to be very difficult to access and make changes to. AMG is fully aware of what goes on in the tuning world...look how long it's taken most tuners to really get into the 63 ECU/ ME 9.7; and here we have a new motor coming out with FI. You think AMG doesn't realize how easy it is to get more power by just increasing boost on these new motors? And don't you think they are going to do their best to make sure that doesn't happen? From the sources within AMG that I've spoken to, it's going to be EXTREMELY DIFFICULT and if/when it IS done by some tuner, it's going to set off red flags when the car goes in for service. This is just what I've been told by an AMG tech from Germany who worked on my car a while back. Take it FWIW...

i wonder if hacking into ECU to tune these cars can be deemed a "breach of contract " on a leased car and they can legally call in the loan ???? ALmost like a piece of real estate ???

Ehhhhhhh....I dunno about that. What I do know is that they are gonna start really cracking down on tuning ECU's and issuing Status 8's for it. Again, this is just what I've been told...

Drove it for almost a year with no coverage until lease expired.
No other problems,no beef from them when I returned the car.

I say it all the time and have seen it first hand. I worked at a large company out in the Midwest where the IT guy was a GENIUS who spent the day protecting our company from "evil". Nights were spent playing friggin Warcraft and hacking 4Chan style. The things I saw him do were terrifying. Enough to shut my modems down at night.
It will take awhile, but they'll crack it. TRUST ME!

If Microsoft, one of the biggest and most capable corporation on the planet, has their stuff hacked all the time along with the Pentagon, CIA, and many governmental agencies who practically have infinite amount of resources, cracking an ECU should not be a big problem. I definitely see it taking longer, but should not be too much of an obstacle. History has taught us that someone always hacks in
. All a company has to do is advertise that their product is unhackable and you'll see the best hackers in the world jump in.... and soon after, you will see it cracked. Hackers generally don't want to hack something that anybody can hack into.... on the contrary, they want to hack the stuff that people say can not be hacked into

it wont be hard to crack them.they said the same for the new BMW 750li.
everything can be acheived but it will need a month or two. and i expect it to give lots of power.
however the new engines are direct injectors which will be a PITA to tune.
so we can expect to pay 2500 + for the first couple of years.
