OEM Wheels - Matte or Gloss Black?

I have HRE C97s now but looking at remounting the OEM wheels (currently chromed ) for little change. But before I do, I was thinking of powder coating it to black. I've searched for pictures of member's OEM wheels but couldn't find samples of OEM wheels in black.

Any of you have done this and do you have pictures to share.

My car is black on black.

Thanks in advance for sharing.

In my opinion, matte black looks better unless you keep your tires shined up all the time. I think shiny black rims with non shiny/dirty tires looks pretty ghetto.

If you know how to play with photo shop, you will be able to choose your color and seek opinion.

If you don't know, then go find someone who knows and ask her/his help, if no one around you , then you pay any party to do it for you.

Then it will be clear for you which color to choose.

I was thinking the same. As well, with the matte black powder coat I won't have to worry about the tremendous amount of dust that our brakes creates.

ahmad - I know I can photoshop but it's not the same as actually seeing an actual pic mounted and getting opinion of someone who's actually done it. I'm thinking of matte or glossy black only.

Aside from the OEM coat, do you think another might work on a 040?

Matte/Satin. It is what I have. It leaves a little sheen so it does not have that dirty look too it.

Vader - Thanks! What do think of the OEM wheels in matte or satin?

By the way, I like the contrasting bolts on your wheels.

Mine are a mix of Matte-Satin Black. I am not sure how to explain it, They are not full Satin, or Full Matte. If your wheels are Chrome, you might need them stripped too. OEM wheels are great, they spin good. You will like them more than the 20's.

Vader - Thanks! Yeah I was thinking that I will have to have them stripped of the chrome. Stripping it will certainly help reduce the weight the chrome adds to the wheel. As well, it will probably help in reducing the rotational resistance. My C97s are 19s with brushed aluminum and polished lip. I stayed away from chrome with the C97s. While the weight of the HREs are minimal and the tires still have some resemblance of a sidewall to cushion the bumps, the 19s did introduce a little harshness to the ride compared to the OEMs. I can only imagine how a set of 20s would feel in terms of firmness. As it is with the 19s I am always on the lookout for potholes worrying about bent rims. The 20s are probably worse with its rubber band-like tires. I can't imagine driving 20s in the SF Bay Area with its Caltrans-quality roads.

The mix of Satin/Matte looks really good. Are they painted or powder coated? From what I read in the other threads, pc is the way to go?

Thanks again!

Totally agree, unless your car has a custom matte paint, it looks like ****, it almost turns brown with the dust.
