Non functioning trunk closing/lock switch

I had my trunk open all winter long because I have a battery tender attached. Yesterday I decided to take the car for a spin and noticed that the trunk closing switch on the trunk did not light up. Lock button did not light up either. They were both not functional. I closed the trunk from inside the car. I followed the wire all the way down to the trunk but they weren't severed. I unplugged the switch and used a multimeter to check for power on the 3 wire connector. I got reading on only 2 wires. The other wire is negative? Does this sound like a bad switch or bad wiring?
