Do they still make cams for our cars?
I'm wondering if cams would make a significant difference in performance. I searched but all I have found are old threads. Anyone here running aftermarket cams and happy with the money spent on them? I am thinking about doing cams in the near future if it is worth the money. Thanks guys.

From what I've been told, cams are good for 10-15 horsepower on the top end. Probably not worth the cost of the cams, installation, and tune...unless like E55Bullett wrote, you have to have every performance part.

PTE makes cams, but seriously man, enjoy your car for now. You just got a ton of mods plus Jeremy tune and are good to roll. Enjoy your car and don't sweat the small stuff.

+1 spend the money on something different bro. Supporting mods and install for this alone is going to run your wallet paper thin.

Short answer: no they are not. They won't through a lot of up's and down's until they were finally banned from here. I think the VRP cams were a modified version of the SLR cams.
Before going with cams, you should do a lot of research regarding the subject. Also, talk to a few people who have had them installed in the past: bassn_07 (PTE Cams) and MBTEK (Kleemann/Shrick cams).
In general, many seem to agree that the cams produce a little bit of power (10 whp) but mainly/only in the top-end range of the rpm.

I am with Bruce. These cars are dying to breathe. 80 or 82mm should be your next mod 100%!! That and the VRP air box for even more flow!! Dont go cams

From my conversations amongst people on the board here with cams, I would skip it. As far as mods, you still have a few other things to do before you should even consider cams. (Of course my humble opinion.) ie. 82mm TB, cf airbox, lsd, long tube headers. I think those mods in itself will be more than enough to get you where you want to be with the car.

The issue of cams is not clear...
PTE cams I believe (from what I hear - no personal experience) are the best out there although they require custom tuning to get the best out of them...
Kleemann (Shrick) are milder, but do offer a bit of a more free reving top end ... more power? I guess so, Kleemann dyno say yes from 2500+ rpm, real world power? Not sure, but I enjoy the characteristic of the cams... would I do it again? Money can be better spent on other items and its probably the last on the list of mods I would say.... actually off that... the 2.82 diff would be the last mod I would do...

After that I would go with a Quaiffe diff and see if you can get your hands on a 3.73 ring or 4.10 ring and pinion gear while you are at it. It would have to be custom made, but for the money, it should not cost much but the performance gain and SOTP would be right along side a pulley upgrade

U would not get cams for the extra 10-15hp. U would get the cams for the engine's power characteristic's more agressive power band.
If your were in a race with an other e55 with same power but u had the kleeman cam and u both kicked back. Just say the car kicked back 2 second gear at around 4K most prob in the kleeman cams range. the car will be very agressive and explode with power becoming more alive and agressive then the car with out no cam.
So both cars might have same power but one would have a more race characteristic
