A note on repairing steering angle sensor...

Firstly, if you have damaged one don't throw it away as these can be repaired. Particularly if the needle that follows the groove is the bit thats broken. And this is usually the fist bit to go...

CAUTION: never spin / turn the steering wheel allot with the steering column disconnected.... this will bust the SAS.

Normally you will find all the bust pieces inside and its bascially a question of bonding them back together with some plastic cement (not super glue), and your good to go. There is very little pressure on the sensor so the bond is well strong enough to last a long while.

Typical indication of a busted SAS, is ESP malfunction warning (traction control still works but you cannot switch off ESP) and inoperable speedtronic. Also an XENTRY/DAS scan will show the sensor reading at limit max or limit minimum with no change when the steering is moved.

These are around ~$300+ a pop I think so worth the effort to see if a repair can be done.
