Does 80 miles still qualify as new?
I recall the debate (when I got mine delivered) about factory mileage due to "testing" and such.
But 80 miles seems a lot higher than any factory test program I'm aware of.
What is the reasonable limit, though?
I don't recall that debate ever having been resolved.

The Black one is sitting outside the original owners home. The second one (Silver) is being sold by a used car dealer. ByDesign is not a Mercedes Dealership. They purchased the car new from a dealer and any sale hereafter would be the second owner.
These cars were purchased as a quick investment or for 'flipping'. The reason these cars are hard to get initially is because many people place orders and buy them to jack up the price for high demand cars. They are not interested in driving or owning the car. Just a quick buck - which they will get.

Porsche 997 Turbo
My dealer over here in South Germany has the following cars in stock for immediate delivery and one even gets some rebate (just in case somebody in Germany is interested ):
- brandnew CLK 55 AMG
- brandnew E 55 AMG (I think I get this car because mine has been delayed)
- brandnew SL 600
- brandnew SL 55 AMG
- brandnew SLK 32 AMG
People seem to have problems buying such expensive cars these days over here, a lot of potential customers backed off.
It is interesting to see that dealers in the US are asking premium for a E55. Ouch.

They missed the most damn important picture... the engine... hell I don't know if its just been modified to seem like an E55 (that would take LOTS of work) or is it really, real.
I donno if they did a mistake or what: "8 CYLINDER 5.0 LITER"... if anything, sounds like an E500 with AMG body kit and all AMG stuff lol.

There is an agreement between certain car manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar, etc. .
In certain countries (not US) it is possible to order or retrofit a top speed "raise" to 300 kph (188 mph) directly through AMG Affalterbach in Germany (install only at Affalterbach or with certain exceptions at the Mercedes factory).
A complete delimitation for the E55 is not available due to safety issues with the tires. The E55 would be good for at least 320 kph (200 mph) top speed without any restriction.

Interesting picture. I didn't know that the E55 only shows 160 mph top speed on the speedo. German E55 show 320 kph (200 mph). Maybe this is AMG's new "strategy" to make it harder for customers to remove the speed limit on certain markets, at least legally? Strange thing.

Maybe the digital read out will go higher.
I think the reason to limit the speedo read out may have to do with the fact that eventually there will be a backlash by the enviromental wackos and road-nannies against big engined cars -- like those idiots running ads against SUVs. (Don't those morons have anything better to do with their time and money!) They want us all to drive hybrids, take the bus or pedal to work (I did today).
Perhaps MB/DC just didn't want to be part of a segment on 60 minutes about some idiot who plowed his E55 into a bridge and evaporated because it was too damn fast for him to handle. "And look here, Morley, this car practically dared him to go 160mph. Is there any kind of test or qualification for this car?" As they line up ten Honda Civics to dramatize the HP of the E55.
These kind of stories are right around the corner as all manufacturers compete to ramp up the HP in widely available production cars. I can see it now, ads, billboards and bumper sticks reading "Speed kills." Weeping "victims" of high HP cars will be paraded out, spewing the horrors of how "Johnny loved his NASCAR. He believed he could go fast too."
Yeah, instead of pointing to the Matrix and violent video games for making the kids go wacko with guns, they will move to ban realistic driving games and take some slaps at the racing world for glamorizing "speed."
Not that most people outside of the anchor chairs of the major netwoks and the editorial boards of the so-called major newspapers will really feel that it is an issue. But expect it. It will happen.
I was in Dayton, OH back when Yamaha first started putting out the V-Max. I remember hearing that 6 out of the first ten sold had been wrecked with sometimes fatal consquences...Natural selection I thought, but some might blame the bike...
