What I mostly struggle with is 2 aspects....
First, why ask the AMG board which is better? AMG or "X"...Well **** me silly, I wonder what we all will say...
And second, why do most insist on asking opinions on the car you are contemplating on purchasing? Just drive the damn thing... if it puts a smile on your face, wonderful, buy it. Or do what real men do, buy the machine sight unseen and have it shipped to your doorstep

Both nice, different characters... you need to decide for yourself in the end. No amount of advice here is going to help ...

I have owned both an E60 M5 and E63 M6; now I own an E55.
I will say that the best part about both the M5 and M6 is the rev aspect. It seems like those motors NEVER want to stop revving.
Having said that, they lack torque, particularly in the low rev range. It's just not the same; the E55 makes GOBS of it below 3K and above it, too.
As mentioned above, drive both. They are both outstanding vehicles and made for different purposes. It's a matter of what YOU want it for - personally, I would give up the small 'HP' difference (if any, considering the W211 in E55s is a bit underrated) for the amount of torque the E55 makes - it makes daily driving so much more fun!
It's also important to note, the M5/M6 are geared for top end. Since it seems you're sort of wrapped around which is "faster", I will say this:
E55 will win 0-110
M5/M6 MIGHT catch up after that.
But, in all honesty, who races that fast consistently on the streets, much less, not many will get away from getting pulled over/license revoked if you get caught.
Bottom line, enjoy whichever car you get. Worse comes worse, drive one til you're sick of it, sell it and buy the other.
P.S. Or you can buy a 997TT and be done with it.

I made the switch from the M5 to E55. M5 is an amazing machine. The higher reving engine is a ton of fun when in low gears and pushing around corners. The thing is, how often do you do that?
My E55 has the most common mods and puts down 500whp. In all honestly, it is much more fun as a daily driver. The TQ is addictive and is something the the M5 somewhat lacks. As far as options, they both have pretty much the same luxury/options. Main difference between the 2 cars is the M5's suspension and SMG tranny. Those things are dialed in perfect. But again, this is great for the track. I personally like being lowered on some air and hearing the monster that lives in my exhast growl. The almost 600 lbtq doesnt hurt either.
It really come down to your preference. Both amazing machines. But you have to drive both to really understand. Hope that helps a bit.

Because everyone's opinion is just that, an opinion which is subjective. Go to a BMW forum and they will tell you to get the M6, go to a MB forum and they will likely say get the E55.
Only YOU can determine what will fit YOUR needs.
If specs are all you care about, I'm sure Car and Driver or another similar source will have all the information you need to make your comparison.

I like tacos and beer, though I also like tequila and burritos. Should I pick up some tacos and beer on my way home from work, or should I get tequila and burritos?
Of course, whether its tacos or burritos, I will need to get Kobe beef to put in them.

Thursday night Pizza night for me. Help me decide....onion, no onions or green peppers. What do you like on your pizza. Do you think bannana peppers are hot or would consider them mild. Oh crap I forgot I need gas. Where do you get gas....BP, Mobil, Shell or Sunoco? Which is the best?
