Prices are from parts.com

This is for an 06. Not sure if they are the same for an 05...

How easy are these to replace? Stealer said a few of mine had deteriorated and were causing a lumpy idle via a misfire and that i should replace them all?

black05scamg 02-08-2011 06:36 PM

no hard at all just pull the wire from the metal piece not the wire and they should pull out

MBZ says plugs @ 100k, not sure of the wires, I just did them along with the plugs since it was a good time to swap em out

I did my plugs and wires at a little over 50K miles. I got the whole set of wires for around $160 on parts.com, if memory serves me right.

Can all the plugs from parts.com also, and should I be able to do the plugs myself? I'm at 99k right now and I kind of noticed a small sputter at an idle the other day...

I have an 05 E55 as well and looking to do the plugs and wires. Where did you end up buying the wires from?

What are some obvious signs of bad spark plug wires? Car just hit 100k like I said and I'm going to do the plugs this week......trying to decide whether or not I should just buy the wires and do them at the same time or see how much longer they will last

If you are in there, you might as well do it.

At 100K miles I would also replace the wires.

Bosch equivalent part numbers for those who need them

0 356 912 950 x 4
0 356 912 952 x 2
0 356 912 948 x 9
0 356 912 954 x 1

The wires last longer than

100k miles. They are not 100k replacement items nor items replaced every plug change at 5years.
If for some reason you think it is damaged by abuse (like yanking it off the plug by hand) or heat(rarely) test it for proper resistance with your multimeter.
Don't use multi tip plugs, don't use anti-seize,use a swivel socket spark socket, use the 17mm boot tool.Flip the tool around and use it to pop the metal collared boots back onto the plug.
Easy job on a Saturday morning.

Sorry to bump, I was gonna tackle plugs myself on the SL but scraped all my knuckles.

My indy saying change the wires with my plugs, pretty sure my plugs and wires OEM from 2004 70k miles..thats 14 years..

Should I just do the wires while im at it? I see Bremi wires for 160$ Anyone use these?

I can't imagine you couldn't pull the wires off the plugs other than you have huge hands or were doing it wrong.

I'd leave the wires be if they don't cause you troubles. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Tight in the rear, I used the 17mm. Then realized my torque wrench was defective..It wasn't clicking so I threw it in the trash. Rather pay a shop the $200.
He's insisting I get the wires, I don't feel like it and they looked fine to me when I inspected them as well.
Feel like he won't change my plugs if i come w/o wires hahaha

Does anybody know the wiring order? I found this diagram on the ML forums, seems legit. Just want to confirm
