Angry ECU Help

I have ECU problem, and i have Mb Star Diagnostic (Xentry) How can i take codes from old ECU and program on New one.However, i used to have 99 MB C230 kompressor, i had Ecu problem on that car and i call my Mercedes technician and he did same way , he took a codes from old ECU and reprogram on new one( use from another car). I just need instructions on Xentry how to do that, help me please . Thanks you

Question first. Is this a brand new ECU purchased from MB or a used one you snagged off the net? 100% you can not use a used ECU from another car as they are "mated" to the VIN# when you first program them.

I have never heard of this being done honestly but I can check on my Star and see what I find out.

This is possible on the Tranny TCU but never heard of this on the ECU.

tnx for reply ,but 100% you can use old ECU (Me Control Unit) The guy who reprogram mine he told me to go to "junk cars" and get one use(i pay 150)from same model and then he came and pick up my old one and new .After 1 day he came back with both ECU and he put new one on car ,but it wont start the car and then he connected with Xentry and he programmed work perfect.I did research about this some guys say you can pull of old codes and reprogram on new one.

WOW, you may be onto something huge here!

I have a spare ECU and I am gonna try messing around with it and see what happens/

Don't understand how all the tuners could be wrong all these years.

Okay, well here are the steps to do it....again, if it's actually possible.

From Cory at Kleemann on down, all have said that once an ECU is mated to a car, it can not be used with any other car so this will be interesting

In your Star click the screens in this sequence.

Control Units/ Control Unit Groups/ Drive/ ME SFI Motor Electronics/ Do You Want To Overwrite..YES/ Initial Setup/ Initial Startup with Automatic takeover of settings of previous control unit/ Offline (No Network Star Diagnosis unit).....screens after this are self explanatory.

Let me know if you get this to work. Lot of guys would love to have a spare ECU and there are ton of junkers on the market that we don't use.

LOL - let us know when you get to the "Unable to transfer coding" bit. When you friend took the ECU home, he pulled a chip off and reflashed it.

They're not joking when they say that once it's been mated to the car, it's locked down. If you have the resources, you can wipe them clean so they think they are a brand new ECU but that equipment is far from cheap and unless you're doing a lot of them, the cost of such hardware is price prohibitive. As for going through the SDS and auto take over of previous settings, that's for a new ECU from Mercedes and is used since the same ECUs are used on a broad range of vehicles. ML500 uses the same ECU as a CLK500 but the two have different programming. It takes the original configuration from the bad ECU and allows you to write it to the new one. Not gonna transfer anything that allows the car to start though as that is not on the same part of the ECU as the other settings. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

what i know is that you have to replace a chip from your old ECU to the NEW/Used one you are going to use. and then you connect it to STAr to configure it for the current car. but there is a part that should be changed.
