This is the reason I drive my 4cyl truck all week (50 miles a day commute), and drive the AMG on the weekends only.

Chevron has a large refinery in Hawaii.

Around here, the spread between regular and premium is typically 40 cents. Lets put some math to this. Yesterday I filled up and purchase roughly 17 gallons. If I did this once a week for a year, the total end price difference between regular and premium was $353.60. Seriously, that is a drop in the bucket if you own one of these cars. Attempting to run a cheaper grade gas in order to save money is laughable.

Haha no kidding, $4.50 would be beautiful...

My last fill up was almost $6.00/gallon

I only think this is valid for countries that aren't a fraction of the size of the US. People here tend to have much larger commutes due to cost of living/real estate prices.

$4.25 in Cali. I'm guessing more like $6 this summer. Used AMGs will depreciate even further.

You can always mix some cheap bourbon in with the gas and save some bucks....

I paid $3.91 a gallon this morning in the Chicago suburbs. Did you actually drive to a bunch of stations to find the cheapest one, or is that what the price happened to be at the station you went to? I know too many people that go crazy to find the cheapest gas and end up wasting 20 minutes and driving 10 miles out of their way to save ten cents a gallon or less. In the end it costs them more money and more time to "save".

That chart is basically too simplistic to encompass what I meant. If you want to factor in standards of living per pay bands associated with affordable housing in relation to members per household, then sure. The fact is that in the US people tend to commute much farther distances with less access to public transportation doesn't change.

How many people in the UK commute 50 miles a day? Compared to the US?

I just started using the Gas Buddy app to avoid that. Not that I was one of the crazies to begin with, but it's nice being able to find the best deal right off the bat.

The title bugs me...

Also, if you can't afford to put premium in your AMG, you can't afford your AMG.

Isn't that RON versus the AKI rating we have here? AKI is around 5 points below RON. 102 RON = 97 AKI in the US.

+1! I have NEVER driven my car with less than a quarter tank of gas. Except the few times I was at the track. Other then that, never below quarter tank. Always have to think of the what if's...

It is what it is. Bought the car knowing what I was getting into. Even if they hit $7.00 a gallon, big deal. My decision, my purchase, had I wanted to conserve and hug a tree, I would have bought a Prius.

The difference between unleaded supreme and premium is $0.10. per gallon. By filling up a 13 gallon tank with dirtier fuel you will "save" $1.30... Though keep in mind - gas mileage will slightly decrease. more wear on the motor as well as less performance. Just makes no sense to me unless the car isn't yours and you are cheap.

Yeah, no sh*t! Right now, 92 is over $4.00. By the end of next week it'll probably be $4.159.

with my last tune before we leaned it out a little I got 113 miles on a full tank of gas with the beast. That would cost me over 300 a month just to get to work everyday.
113 miles? That seems really low. I usually drive from SFO to LAX on on tank of gas although my car is stock.

LOL..you DO know it's not actually dirtier fuel right? And where do you even get that there will be more wear on the engine? People shouldn't use regular fuel only because it may cause detonation at wot ( which is obviously a bad thing ) but that's the only reason. Take the SC belt off or don't go WOT and you can run 87 oct with zero issues.

Here in Germany you pay for 1 Litre gas 2,36 USD.
But here you can buy even 102 Octan.
