Mercedes E55 AMG (2006), Mercedes 560 SEL (1991)
One question, how does stock 997TT compare sound-wise at low revs..?

2008 E63 AMG
I'm also disappointed in the low end torque. This is my fourth AMG, after two CLK55 AMG's, and most recent an 05 E55, the E63 is a totally different car. Much more refined, better shifts, better ride, better brakes (I think), and more quiet, etc.... but I am missing my E55, which after a pulley, cooling, and tune, was a monster. I am waiting on the new TT to be affordable.....

btw, the steering in the E63 is so much improved over the E55. Unfortunately the 55 suffers from numb and imprecise steering.

guys, really. instead of admitting the truths in my review, the reviewer himself is attacked. that's an ad hominum argument.
im not a car newbie. im not a forum newbie either. i didnt buy the wrong car, not do enough research, nor was i expecting 997tt performance. geez.
several folks said i didnt do enough research on the car. although that is not correct, it does somewhat touch upon the reason for the post. in reading these threads on the car, people could easily be lead to believe that the car is something that it isnt. thus, the reason why i gave an honest review. btw, its not like the review was terrible. it is what it is. an honest assessment.

i am a guy who owns this car. you are a guy who doesnt. you also apparently know nothing of the difference between crank horsepower, wheel horsepower and, most importantly torque to weight ratio.
my first car was a Mustang 5.0. would i get my kid a Mustang 5.0 as a first car? hell no! that car with all its torque and propensity to get sideways was really fun for me, but certainly not what i would want to give to my kids. it was only like 225 hp but a beast. the e63 is far, far, more tame. like i said, the power that it does have is more like a safety feature than an unexpected danger. if you havent driven one, then you really dont know what your talking about and have no place calling me names.

NO ONE is dumb enough to think a 507 HP car is a "good first car for my Daughter". It's clearly a diss to get the fans all riled up.
If somebody was absolutely off-their-rocker enough to believe so, then I'm sure they'd be singing to a different tune if they were to witness the repercussions of their Teen exploiting said HP on a blast to their untimely, and even more unfortunate, others untimely demise, on the Local News at night due to it.

I'm researching prior to getting an E55 or E63 and find this thread a bit amusing. To start....of the E63
First off, it does not have shocking or extra impressive acceleration.
Boy, a line like that will stir up the natives. I think to myself, how does that jive with a 4000 + pound car scatting to 60 in 4 seconds, give or take a tick? The only answer I can think of is feel. I have owned a number of high end fast cars, including a modified 1986 Porsche 911 with 500 HP which was BRUTALLY fast. Guaranteed to get a holy ___ out of any passenger when I nailed it, except my wife who is a speed freak. Now, I was hot for the E55 when it first came out and my wife and I bought a brand new 03 in silver with keyless go. Had to part with it after a year and a half due to financial reasons, partly because it was chewing up tires like crazy. I suspected my wife because she was the terror of the local onramps. My circumstances have changed and I want to get one again, or an E63. Leaning toward another E55 because I do want that "feel" of fast, but have yet to make up my mind. Will of course have to test drive the E63. To be honest, you get used to a car. After a while I didn't even conciosly think of the E55 as being especially fast. But a WAS always impressed with its speed, being a big sedan.

Thanks for the review - I'm researching the E63, and not having any prior driving experience with these vehicles, I had this self-formed impression that it will smoke its tyres with a prod of the accelerator from idle, after reviews from watching shows like Top Gear. I am now better informed, thanks to your candid comments.
I still have a keen interest in an E63 touring, but with fuel prices imminently going up, maybe a diesel may be a more practical alternative. Might be prudent (albeit a bit boring) to make a more sensible choice these days.
