e55 Headliner

I am really wanting to either change my existing headliner to black, or getting the e63 headliner installed in my car.

The easy part is the suede / alcantara, the hard part is all of the grey buttons / rear view mirror / handles etc. to be black also

I know AMGFAN did this, was there a way to dye the grey pieces black, or do you have to purchase the e63 pieces? Would they be a direct fit?

You can easily just paint them with interior plastic paint. Then you won't have to disassemble all of the electronics just to dye them. From dying plastics as well I know they fade over time and use but I'm sure Jon would have better insight as he has actually tackled the job himself.

Mine is going charcoal to match the leather of the seats so I can let you know what my interior guy does if you'd like.

yeah - the orginal is classy but the color is too light -- I am always afraid to touch it and get it soiled with our natural oils

SEM would work perfect in the more difficult areas that need dye/paint. I believe the color is Landau Black. Make sure ALL the prep work is followed though.

Awesome! Did you remove all of the plastic parts and spray them off of the car? Any tips?

Yes I removed all the pieces from car. I cleaned them real good. Scuffed them lightly applied a paint adhesion product then sprayed with SEM.

Okay awesome! I think I'm going to have to do that for sure! I wish they came black stock like the e63. I wonder if it's going to be a real hassle to get it looking right! Have you finished yours? Any pics?
