Drag Strip outing.....seems a bit soft on the top end??
Hey everyone,
I decided to take the old girl to the strip last night with my buddy, this was the first time I have drag raced my E55. Ended up doing 9 runs total and could have done 20+ as it was fairly empty last night at Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, TX). Ended up having a blast as it's been 11 years since I have drag raced!
Out of nine races I took down 2 new 5.0 Mustangs, 1 SRT8 Challenger, 2 LS6 Firebirds, 1 older 5.0 Mustang and a late ~90's SS Camaro. I got beat by a low 10 sec trailered Camaro, and had a great race with a new CTS-V with exhaust. I got a good launch on the V and pulled 1/2-3/4 car link out of the gate, but I couldn't hold that damn thing off!! He ran me down on the top end and got me by about 3/4 car lengths...my 12.22ET to his 12.03ET.
Anyway I wanted to get some input as the car seems soft on the top end?? But I ET'd better than I was expecting with the crappy density altitude so I am a bit confused... Every run was between 111 and 113mph, yet I ran 3 12.20's in a row? With a D/A correction of my best run at 11.97@ 116...top end still seems soft even corrected? Any insight on what to chase?
Details:
Car: 03 E55 AMG (just turned 60k miles on the way back last night)
Mods: K & N's and a CM30 pump...and a few appearance mods.
Density Alt.: 1800ft...ugh
ESP off, Trans sport, ride comfort....most 60fts in the mid-high 1.8's
No cool downs - ran 15-20min after arriving and hot lapped it all night.
Overall I'm happy with 12.20's on a fairly stock E55 hot lapping it with a crappy D/A, but the MPH's seem low. Not sure where to look as the CM30 pump is fairly new? And I don't know what my IAT's were...
Maybe H/E time?
A few time slips attached with a pic...yes I know my reaction time blows. I was really concentrating on getting this beast out of the hole without blowing the tires off...
Anyone who has the opportunity to run their beast at the strip....DO IT!! You will have a blast! My friend was cracking up because everytime I staged the crowd would be mumbling..."A Mercedes...he's going to get smoked by that Mustang...or Camaro.." NOT!

Yeah bro, thats perfect for a bone stocker. Fastest stocker we have is Hammers freak of nature monster that runs 11.84 at perfect DA.
Great job!!!
Did you get the circle of locals bowing and worshiping it in the pits?
It's always a fun time.

Just seems like I've seen some 117/118's out of some basicly stockers like mine, but I am VERY pleased with the 12.22 D/A corrected 11.97 et!
It was fun! By the end of the evening a lot of people were eye balling the car, even the official handing out the time slips said "Wow...nice time..." after my first run of 12.41 et.
