Video of my Muffler Delete Exhaust!

So I finally got around to getting a video together on my exhaust setup. basically cut off the mufflers and put on straight tips. I think it sounds great but I might cut off the secondary cats and install a x-pipe soon. LMK what you guys think!

http://vimeo.com/21332102

Ill post up another vid soon when I get a chance to get on the freeway and do another pull.

Sounds sick. Do a resonator delete first, I think if you go straight to the secondary's it will get VERY loud. But if you like that, like I do, go for it bro.

I also like the quick U-EE you did at the end of the road

sometimes the simplest things are the best solution haha. Initially I thought the placebo effect was just getting to me but it seems to have helped top end just a bit, I noticed the car pulls a little quicker up to 120 than it use too. I wish my buddy still owned his shop so I could do some dyno runs and see if there was truly any gains but from the feel of the car it does seem to improve.

thanks bro! I use to have a 3.5" turbo back straight pipe on my STi so me and you definitely have the loud car thing in common

only issue im worried about with removing the resonator is it might increase the drone, there is a decent amount when cruising on the freeway. It doesn't really bug me but just annoying when passengers keep asking me why it does that lol. seems like it's impossible to get rid of it on big V8's

Sounds great. I did the exact same thing as you last summer. I had my shop delete the mufflers and initially went with straight pipes to quad round stainless tips. I drove it like this for a few weeks but the drone between 1800-2200 rpm was just too much. I did some research and came across a solution you might want to check out. The pontiac G8 guys are fighting the same type of drone. You can have your exhaust shop weld in a helmholtz resonator and it cuts out the drone about 90%. I had my shop do this and it is amazing. Its basically a dead-end extension about 28-30 inches in length. I had my shop add two where the mufflers were under the rear fenders. Take a look at the "j-pipe" offered by solo exhaust. I had my shop do something similar. Its an inexpensive way to get rid of the droning.

I really like it - have my secondary's removed and having the resonators removed right now - was told it would be ready yesterday should be getting it back today from the shop cant wait!

thanks for the info, I'm gonna have to look around for more info on the helmholtz resonator. do you have a link or some pics? the J-pipe is not a bad idea but from the vids I have heard they tend to be a bit raspy. I might run a H-pipe between the two sides and see if that level's things out.

that's the setup I had before, trust me you won't be dissapointed. sounds very throaty but it was just too quiet for my personal taste lol

The j-pipe is a Helmholtz resonator. If you get the length of the pipe correct it effectively cancels out the frequency where the droning occurs. I didn't notice any change in the exhaust sound at all when we added the j-pipe other than a reduction in droning. We tee'd off the main pipes and radiused a 29 inch section of exhaust pipe for each side so that it would curl up under the rear fender. We then just capped it at the end. I don't have a good picture of my set up unfortunately but it works extremely well. I don't know how much an h-pipe would help since that is essentially what the stock resonator is. I had bad droning with a completely stock set up with muffler delete.

okay now I see what your saying I thought helmholtz was the brand lol. Ive only heard the J-pipes on American muscle so maybe it's there setup that's naturally a bit raspy thanks for the insight ill have my exhaust guy give this a shot and see what happens! sounds promising

Any pics of how it looks? From the back, and maybe underneath?

This might be something I want to try.

Yea it's really not too bad until you give it the beans, then it starts to roar. We'll see how the secondary cat delete and x-pipe will sound, I'm kind of experimenting to find the right sound to suit my tastes.

Did you ever get around to removing the secondary cats and or resonator? Also, did you cut the tips off your mufflers and weld them to the straight pipes?
